What's new Thursday, Veteran's Day?

Went to bed with my legs driving me nuts at 7:30pm. . .No wonderr I'm up now. Today is a reminder that freedom certainly isn't free. I'm such a totally non-violent person. It's hard for me to understand why people can't just let each other be. Why do we have to force ourselves upon others? Why can't we just live and let live?

That being said, if we don't protect ourselves we get overtaken so I do appreciate those who have served and continue to serve our country during war and peace. I recently touched the Viet Nam Memorial and felt my cousin Dale Meyerkord's name on the wall. He was serving his 3rd tour in Viet Nam when he was killed by a sniper on the Mekong River in 1963. His name is on the first panel of the memorial. Visiting all of the memorials on the National Mall in Washington, DC last month made my heart ache for all of those lives cut short. Many thanks to all of our veterans.

Post away. I'll be back a bit later.

Good Morning Karen, those yet to come. . .

Yes Veteran's Day is a time to realize the sacrifices of many young lives cut short by believing that our country and it's values were worth fighting for, so let us remember all the Veterans today, those gone, but let us not forget the many that walk among us scarred for life by some of what they have witnessed in their duty as soldiers guarding and protecting us.

Today should be an easier day at work, which simply means for me, working on the many projects my one boss seems to think are necessary to keep me busy (lol).  Otherwise, this evening I will attend an AA meeting and that will be about it. ..

Wishing you all the very best of days and for those facing and dealing with lifes greater challenges, I wish you peace and strength to get through those challenges.

Hugs, Laureen

Yes, Laureen, those veterans *****turn with no "physical" scars must have emotional and mental ones. I don't think you can experience that kind of trauma without them. How difficult it must be for them and their families as they try to readjust to "normal." How can they be trained to kill if necessary and then punished for not doing it according to "humane" rules and regulations? Don't get me started there.

Good morning Karen and OFF family to come.

Happy Veterans Day to our men and woman who serve us with their lives in jeopardy every moment. Today I'm wearing red white and blue with my flag pin. I will take time out for prayers of thanks that these men and woman return home safe and healthy. I pray that those that need medical attention get it without waiting for their benefits. I especially pray for our veterans who are homeless.

Today is a beautiful day and all those that are attending some type of gathering for our veterans enjoy our freedom. It truly is a day to give thanks! Hugs Debbie

Debbie, Freedom certainly isn't free is it? I think about those who have lived most of their lives in countries that are torn apart by war. Children that know only fear and war. Our troups keep us safe here at home and I do appreciate it.

good morning!
with it being veteran's day; i am off from work- tho no pay-
i'm going to the local library boosters mtg to see about getting involved.....

last nite was a bit of grocery shopping and a scrip-had KFC at mom's and good conversation with all- tho they all got a laugh out of my story re the game i lost but didn't even play! it's all character building and was interesting to hear my brother's perspective-much better than what i would have expected from him! some days he is actually human!!!!

anyhow- have a load of laundry to hang before i go and need to finish putting away some groceries!

i think mom and i are out on a button quest later - i cannot find my button box since we moved here and she needs some and cannot find hers either- WTH???? anyhow- i got involved in a craft swap and need desperately to find red and green buttons ASAP -without spending a virtual fortune! the thrift stores don't have any "stash' right now and i can't see driving to the bigger cities for a craft/fabric store right now....

hoping for good things for my OFF family today...hugs and prayers.....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Margo,

My mom seldom "donated" clothing to the thrift stores. By the time she was finished with clothes they were no longer wearable. She removed the buttons, put them in the button jar which I now have. Sorry, no red and green I checked! Then she would use the fabric in many ways. Wool and flannel became winter quilts. Cottons became patchwork vests or skirts. Leftovers became dusting rags or potholders! One time she made a tote bag out of two old pairs of jeans. I still have her clothes pin bag which was also made from old fabric. Don't have a clothes line (not allowed in my too trendy neighborhood!) but can't get rid of the pins. I have several that I use to clip chip bags, etc. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
