Hello all;

Today I had my 1-year check up with Dr. Dempsey, this is the man who gave me my life back - Bless him!
He was the surgeon who said I could have this surgery and that he would bring me safely through it. I put all my trust in this man on September 14, 2009 and so thrilled that I did.

I am very excited and pleased with the overall visit and very happy that Gene could accompany me and share this with me
  When my doc walked into the exam room his first words were "YOU LOOK GREAT!!!"    It was a wonderful visit.

All my labs are good.  He said to have my PCP fax him my labs that are scheduled for December.

I am  2 pounds below his goal weight for me.
  He asked me if I have hit a plateau in my weight loss.  I told him that I am not loosing multiple pounds a week anymore. I think I have pretty much leveled off at times I'll loose a pound or two there are months that go by without that happening.  I told him I am not actively trying to loose more weight at this point.  I told him that any weight that has come off in the past couple months has been unintentional on my part and that I figure my body will tell me where it wants to be.   He asked me if I was satisfied with my current weight.  I told him I am very happy right where I am and if I gain a few pounds I'm okay with that also.  He said good, he's glad to hear that is where my head is.    He said he didn't want me to loose more than 5 pounds if I do loose anymore.  I told him I'm good with that if it happens and if not I'm fine with that as well.

Am I ****y enough to believe that my work is done.  Heck no.  I know that now the harder part begins.  I'm a year out.  In order to maintaine my weightloss I have to follow the rules.  Are these rules hard to follow sometimes of course.  Do I want to chuck them out the window of course I do.  Will I toss them, no.  I want to live the rest of my life healthy.  I want to remain active.  I want to be able to climb on the back of our Harley and ride for weeks at a time.  I want to continue to be able to wear the pretty clothes and the sexy shoes I've pulled down from the attic and purchased in the past couple months.

As my visit with my doc came to a close he was teasing me, he asked me if I have his cell number programed into my phone so that I don't loose it again, I told him yes I do and I will use it if there is a next time for an ER visit and stay as I had Labor Day weekend.  He gave me a hug and told me he's very proud of my progress.....

He wants me back to see him until March 2011.

Congratulations - you've done great!!!! You're right to know that maintenance can still be a challenge.     Always remember how great you feel right now so that you keep all these wonderful benefits!!!!!

Thank you Jan.

Thank you for that advice, my hubby who will be 5 yrs out in January tells me the same thing.  To try to remember exactly how I feel now because it can slip into the background and when it does it is so hard to bring it back to the forefront.
