ok... i just received my box of Celebrate Vitamins - i got the Chewable Multivitamins - the Sublingual B12 - and the 1000 IU of Vitamin D - BUT the Vitamin D is a CAPSULE...? I THOUGHT WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SWALLOW CAPSULES? and i need to take 2 a day right now because my blood tests showed i was LOW in Vitamin D... after i have my RNY is this going to hurt me? taking a capsule i mean... ANYONE.....?
Start Weight 275 - im 52yrs Old - 5'7"
had my RNY January 10th 2011
275/230!!!/150
I had a very low Vitamin D count and took 50,000 iu of vitamin D everyday for 3 weeks then switched to 50,000 on Mondays and Thursdays. If you have not had your surgery yet the capsules will not be a problem. I was a three years out when I found my deficiency and the capsule did not bother me. I would talk to your doctor about what to do after surgery. When is you surgery date? You may get it up before then. Of course you know we do not absorb everything so you will need to keep a close eye on your labs. When you have them done also ask that they check Vit D, B12, and Ferretin. Those are not usually done and are important to keep at the proper levels. Vitamin B 12 is easy to get into balance. You may want to take it as soon as you get home from your surgery to keep it up. B 12 comes in sublinguals that you put under your tongue and can be found at Wal-mart or any drugstore. Ferretin is very difficult to get up once it is low. I took a lot of chewable iron after mine dipped really low. Did not know I should be testing for it until it was really low. I have not been successful with the oral iron so I am taking a series of 8 IV infusions. Actually easier than chewing the dang pills. hopefully this will get my counts up. Your doctor should discuss all this with you or have his nutritionist do so. If not post again. There are several people here who are knowledgeable in this area. Susan does hair that does the rowing boat thread is a great source.
is the capsule a gel type? or does it "contain" powder or lil beads?
if it is a capsule; the actual breaking down of it could be a problem later aswell as it's size in relation to the stoma of your new pouch-if it is a container; you could open it into some substance- pudding/cottage cheese etc...
the others have given great answers--i'm not taking a D yet-am sure that i should be!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
