Worst dye job - After having my son my hair went from light blonde to dishwater blonde. My MIL said she would help me dye it. Since she was a brunette, she said we had to strip my color out first. When that process was over I looked like Bozo the clown. We both almost peed our pants we were laughing so hard. After the blonde color went in it still had a slightly orange hue to it. But my hair was short and it didn't take long for the color to grow out. It was a real bonding moment for my MIL and me so I always remember it fondly ~ but still laughing.

As far as real disasters go, recently I've been having my hair colored my "natural" blond. I was a blonde as a child, and blondes don't really go gray as they get older, they get darker. Well, my hair was more dishwater blonde than the color I was when I was younger. So when I hit 50 and after losing weight, I decided to get younger looking. Most of the time, it looked great. But once, something was wrong in the color ... the tube was mislabeled or something at the salon and instead of blond it came out brown. The stylist tried to fix it that day, doing foils in blond, but it just came out really streaky looking. So the next day, I called back and told her to fix this ... she did it for free, then gave me a discount for my next color job. It was much better the second time, but I was worried I really ruined my hair with all those chemicals.
Oh my, Oh my! So many. I also got the Toni perms. I had white blonde hair until I was in about 6th grade and then it turned an ugly mousey brown. I have a school picture that looks like it hadn't been washed in a month!! Then in high school it was totally slicked back in a pony tail. UGH!!!
The worst hair moment, though wasn't mine, it was my Mom's. My friend Janet and I were gonna "do" each other's hair; cut, style the whole thing. This had to be maybe 6th or 7th grade. Mom caught us before we were able to do the deed. We begged and pleaded, and as a compromise she said we could cut and style HER hair!!! OMG!!!! Luckily that was a time Mom didn't work (sometimes she did if the money was tight). It took forever for that mess to become something the hairdresser could even begin to fix.
MY worst, the morning, half my head of hair came out in my hands in the shower! That was last year after chemo, but during radiation. My hairdresser was able to make it presentable and I have kept it very short ever since.
Let me just add...hairdressers are grossly under appreciated!!
Peace
I am on my way. What a ride it has been.

Believe it or not, I have a couple.
I have always had very curly hair. When I was in high school, my barber did not think I should have the curly hair, since none of my brothers did, so he gave me a razor cut every time for the price of a regular haircut.
From after I graduate high school, until I got out the military, I kept my hair fairly short so the curls could not be detected.
But, in 1992 (I was 41 and out of the military for one year), I decided to do something unique. So, I let my curls grow out. Then, I actually got a perm. I had a full blown afro, and I picked it out to about 3" or so. That lasted about a year or so, til I decided to change again. I started using gel in my hair to keep it straight.
Right now, I am back to letting the curls do what they want. People are actually accusing me of perming my hair, which I do not.

I, like many, have a few. . .
As a child, my Mom always cut my hair in a pixie, now understand that I have big ears, so that caused a lot of teasing from my classmates, Dumbo was my nickname in the 1st to 3rd grade :(
I had two friends that were hairdressers, one was a great colorist, as well as hair stylist and the other a good one to get perms from and was a good cutter, but if she was talking, you had to be careful. . . I have hair that has a natural wave to it, however, the longer it is the weight pulls it and makes it so, so I decided to get a perm (it was the 80s and perms were in), so I went to my friend who does good perms and she talked me into cutting my hair too. . . well, you guessed it, she was chatting and next thing I knew my hair was poodle short and I looked in the mirror and cried. . . went home and my b/f was like, who you supposed to be, the bride of Frankenstein, I was not coloring my hair in those days and had one spot towards the very front of my head that was prematurely gray, well it was obvious and that certainly was not fun. . .
Then another time, I decided to try a new hair color (boxed), well it was a Sunday and I followed the instructions and when I was done, I had purple roots, found out my gray did not accept it the way it was meant to be, my g/f taught me that with my gray, I need to add browns when using auburns or reds, otherwise my hair doesn't take the color. . . I had to go to work like that on Monday, that was fun, working as I did in a conservative law firm.
Now, I need not worry, as I am allergic to the dying process and can't color my hair. . . any solution Susan?
