Hi, I am new....
I am in the end of the pre-op process. Getting ready to turn everything in to the insurance in the next week or so. Our policy has a WLS rider and has typically been decent about approval(knock on wood) After 3 month supervised diet, I am "down" to about 320, but I am only 5'3"(if I am lucky). I am getting nervous and sometimes just panicky about the whole thing. There's more to my story for some other time maybe.... for now my big question is, "what do I need to take to the hospital?"
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from yall.

Welcome! I am in the pre-op process as well. My surgery is on the 23rd. When is yours? I will be interested in the replies to your post. I am having open surgery so I will be a bit longer. 1 week! From the other posts I have read you don't need too much. Toiletries, clothes to wear home, a small pillow for comfort in the car and I think it also helps for coughing. Maybe some mags, ipod?
I can understand your nervousness and being a bit panicky. I have had 2 people recently who have tried to talk me out of the surgery which at the time makes me doubt my decision and then I get anxious. I discussed this with my doc, and said that even though I know I have made the right decision I am still very apprehensive about the surgery. He said that that was good, because if I wasn't he would be concerned then. So there you go. Our feelings are all normal.
Good luck with everything and stay in touch.

Welcome to this nice group of supportive folks.
Think you will be happy with your decision, though the road is bumpy at times, it brings you to a destination that many of us just thought we could not reach. The trick, of course, is that after you achieve a certain amount of success, embracing the changes so that you don't become someone whose old habits bring them back to where we start this journey from.
I brought a bathrobe, slippers that had nonslip bottoms for walking the halls, toothbrush/paste, hairbrush, lotion, music, a book and most of those items I did not need (lol), my facility gave me nonslip slipper socks, chapstick, toothbrush, comb, lotion and I never really felt like reading, between the pain meds and the things they had me doing (sipping, walking the halls and spirometer (for keeping lungs clear)), I never had time, as in between I was tired and slept. Oh, I did bring my cell phone, which we were allowed to have.
Best wishes as you jump through the necessary hoops to getting to what is fondly referred to as the "Losers Bench".

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
