Pretend you've got to get out of your house RIGHT NOW! There is a tornado or a tidal wave or a forest fire or some other imminent disaster heading your way and you have two minutes to get out. (All of your family members and pets are already safe.) You have time to grab up one thing and only one thing. What is it?
No cheating--it has to be something that is already ready to grab. It can be your photo albums if you normally keep them all together, or your important papers if they are already boxed; but you don't have time to gather things from different areas of the house. You only have two minutes to grab it and get out!
What did you grab, and why?
Please answer before reading the other responses. I'll add my answer later.

Hi Tink,
I'd grab my laptop. It has all our pictures on it of the grandkids and I've scanned in all the pictures from when my son was young and important family pictures.
It also has about five years of our tax returns done with Turbo Tax.
And I can go down to Starbucks or someplace with a hot spot and still do my banking, bill paying, insurance claims, etc. on it.
That reminds me that I should back it up on a flash drive so I can store it off-site in case of destructive forces.
Thanks,
Bev

Good choice!
I think I'd grab my purse--it has my credit cards, insurance cards, cell phone, and emergency meds in it, plus any cash I might happen to have on hand.
And, hey, thanks for answering! All day I kept checking for responses and it looked like no one wanted to play with me...

My external hard drive. It has EVERYTHING backed up on it. All of our important papers and such are in our safe that is rated the HIGHEST for water and fire. If a hurricane, flood or tornado picks it up and drops it somewhere else, I guess I'll just have to go hunting for it. I'd make my DH grab the laptop!
BUT, during hurricane season we keep a bag packed with all of our essentials.

All of my really important papers are in the bank safe deposit box. Nothing that happens to my house can affect them, but if the bank goes, I'm sunk!
Having a bag packed already is a really good idea for you folks in hurricane-prone areas. I hope Earl doesn't affect you too badly.
Every time I hear the name Earl it reminds me of the old Dixie Chicks song: Earl had to die!

My tote, because it has all that I would need to survive once I left everything else behind, it has my purse in it, as well as important papers, such as insurance information. . . my thinking is that so long as my loved ones are safe, my memory holds all that I need, I would need what is in my tote to help create my future. . .
My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
