I'm furious!

Now you have to listen to my rant... I just called my spine doctor to see if my disability papers were ready. The receptionist said he had decided not to sign them... that disability was never discussed. Ohhhhh boy. I was actually crying with pain when he walked in... his nurse had brought me a bottle of water and Kleenex and had given me a hug. My blood pressure was sky high (I tend very low) because of the pain. Then, when I received the report on the MRI that he ordered it said "High possibility of metastasis to the injured (Broken) vertabrae"... of course I was upset... I asked the receptionist to have him call me to explain the report, but no call. I called the next day to ask again and she said he would call either that night or the next morning. Guess what? Not a peep- ever. So when he had the receptionist tell me no disability I told her ALL OF IT... and to cancel my appointment as I would NEVER set foot in that office again. I called my primary care physician's office and relayed the story to his receptionist. They all know me and have been so supportive as I have gone through these trials. They called my doctor on his cell phone right then to tell him about the other doctor. My Primary wants me in his office early on Tuesday morning to go over the report. He said he is glad I sent everything straight to the University of California-SF. They really have my back.  And he said that the disability is no problem whatsoever. It's done. Can you believe this?

Julia, that really stinks!!!! I hope your PCP gets things going. When I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer the surgeon called me at home. I was all alone & just sat on the floor & cried. And I liked that surgeon!  Remember we are all here for you!

My DH got SSI disability after an injury at work. The hoops they make you jump through is amazing.

One of his docs gave a description of what he could do in a job. So his employers invented a job for him so they wouldn't have to pay his long-term disability.  He had to sit in his own truck for 8 hours watching the rail cars that delivered product to their factory.  He had to get out once every 2 hours and walk along the cars to see that everything was OK. With a good lawyer and another doc he was able to get the SSI disability, but the company didn't have to pay his work long term disability. It took a year of no work to get what he had coming and if it wasn't for the help of family, we would have starved and been sleeping in our car!

Good luck!!  Having your doctor behind you makes a big difference. If all else fails get a good lawyer!

Julia,

I am so sorry that you have the added stress of an a$$hole doctor. He deserved to be fired.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hi Julia:

I'm going to try this again; for some reason lately when I try to reply to you, it quotes the whole message. Last night, I deleted it and then went to reply again, just as Scooter decided he had to get up on my lap. He gets very jealous of my laptop.

This doctor is just an ass ... reminds me of ortho doc No. 2. I had to yell at him to do anything for me. Even this year when I went back for my yearly check on my knee revision, I was in tears over my pain, and all he could say was, "Well, it looks good, see you in a year." He has no feeling ... and neither does your doc. Fortunately, your primary doc cares about you.

I'm sorry you are going through this ... please come to us for a shoulder to cry on, and if you need to talk, you know I'm up late at night.

Hi All,
I just wanted to clarify the disability claim... it's not SSI or work related disability. It's a separate policy that I have that I have paid for in the case of an emergency like this. My sick leave will keep me paid for a good long time. This will be an extra check... there will be no fight to get it, but I have to have a doctor confirm that my claim is legitimate. It's noy even that much money... so it was just the cherry on top with the doctor. By the way, my primary doctor (who loves me) is the owner of the medical building where the "BAD MAN" doctor is leasing. I'm sure that he'll hear about his unprofessional treatment of me. And this may have nixed any further referrals.
