Hello
Hi Everyone. Thank you very much for your warm welcome. I look forward to reading your profiles and becoming one of the family. My surgery is booked for 23 September. There is no support group for RNY patients where I live. I decided to search the internet for information and stories from people who have already had the surgery and that is how I came across this site. Background...55 years of age, 5' 5" tall, married for nearly 31 years, 2 children - boys now 23 and 21 years of age. Weight gain was a result of over-eating due to what has finally been diagnosed as anxiety. Had it for years and thought I was suffering hot flushes...story for another day. Anyway, I had a lapband for 3 years but it didn't work for me. Found it very frustrating because no matter how compliant I was I could still eat lots of food. So in June I had it removed. I made the decision about the RNY about 6 weeks later and booked myself in for surgery. I have a medical support team consisting of my surgeon, my medical practitioner and my dietitian. All bases are covered. Work thinks I am brave, family are still coming to terms with my decision to have the surgery but all understand the benefits of the surgery. Sorry this is so long. I am off to bed now as it is 10.20 pm and have to be up early for work. Thank you again for your kind words. Jules

Hi and Welcome,
Heck no, I didn't feel my age was a problem. What I did feel is that it would do me a wealth of good and fix some of my co-morbidities making me healthier. And, it has.
The only thing I thought about was the sagging skin, but that was only a moment. I then realized who saw it and who the heck cares!
Peace

Hi Jules and welcome to the forum! This is the nicest forum I've been to! :)
I didn't have an RNY but was 54 when I had my switch. In what way was the issue raised, I'm just curious? My feeling is it's never too late to get healthy although I wish I'd done this 10 years ago and spared myself a lot of emotional and physical pain, not to mention all the co-morbidities!
Look forward to 'seeing' you around!
