Hello all,
I'm 57 years old and I live in Denver, Colorado.  I had my RNY WLS on June 7, 2010.  My surgeon is Dr, Jonathan Schoen.  I haven't had any complications (knock on wood! lol) and I credit Dr. Schoen's skill as a surgeon and the fact that I followed my post-op instructions to the letter! So far I have lost 62.5 lbs.  I still have approximately 52 lbs. to go.   I was 250 lbs. when I started.  My doc wants me to be at 130-135 lbs.  I still can't quite picture that image! lol  What a fun and exciting journey this has been so far.  I know this is only the beginning.  I truly can only see positive things coming from this in my future.  I have already been able to stop taking 15 medications!  My blood pressure is normal with no medication.  I was taking 2 meds before surgery and it was still out of control.  My primary care Dr. said this surgery is a life saver for me and I believe him.  I decided to have the RNY after much research, prayer, & thought.  I did it as a gift to myself.
I must say that as I was reading your posts I was very inspired!  You all seem to be happy with your decision and you are so encouraging to others.   I appreciate you being there  and look forward to getting to know everyone better.  Talk to you later!      Viv

Hi Viv,
Congratulations on your wonderful progress. It sounds like you are doing fabulous.
Wow, 62 pounds is awesome. It is an amazing journey. To be able to get off 15
meds is a miracle.
I'm so glad this has been a great experience for you. I had RNY 12-21-09
by Dr Schoen as well.
I've lost 83 pounds. I feel great as well. Have you gone to the support group at University Hospital?
Maybe I'll see you there.
Hugs
Annie

Hi Annie,
Thanks for your support.  It is appreciated very much!
Congrats on losing 83 lbs!  WOW!  That's quite an accomplishment!  Have you reached your goal?  I am very happy for you as well that you had a positive experience with your RNY and life after WLS.  You are truly an inspiration to me.  I have read many of your posts and you are so dedicated to your weight loss journey and to helping others along the way.  You are a special person and I want to thank you for sharing your kind heart with me and others to make our journeys lighter also.  Keep up the good work!  I have no doubt that you will be successful at keeping your weight off and staying at your goal weight for life!
So what do you think of Dr Schoen?  I think he's terrific.  I think he's an excellent surgeon and his bedside manner is so much better than most other docs.  I am a medical assistant and have worked with a few so I can vouch for his attitude. lol   I go in tomorrow for my final check-up.  I say final but it is only my final surgical check-up.
As for the support group at University Hospital...Yes, I do go there.  I missed the one in July because I had a nasty bout of bronchitis but I was at the last one.  Were you there, too?  I am on oxygen and I was sitting in the second row from the front on the left hand side.  It's kind of hard to miss me. lol  My husband comes and gets me so fast that I don't have time to mingle with the girls after the meetings.  This will have to change. lol  I hope to see you at the next one!  Until then...

Hi Jay,
Thanks!  What do you mean ONLY 47 lbs?  That's quite a bit of weight!  Picture 47 lbs of fat on your countertop...see what I mean?  We all lose at different rates.  It's ok.  Talk to your Dr. or dietician to see if they have any ideas to give you a "boost".   I was just on a plateau.  That can get a little frustrating but I just try to remember that it's only temporary.  I am so glad I had the surgery.  My RNY is my best friend in ways.  It's a lifesaver.
I am so thrilled to hear that you, also, were able to get off medications!  I am even down to only taking my pain med every 7-10 hrs!  I can have it 4 x day.   I have only been taking it 3 x day lately.  I would love to get completely off of it but I don't think that will ever happen.  That's ok...there is so much good going on that I can take a little annoying pain! lol
Please let me know how you are doing, ok?  Just keep your eye on the prize...good health!  You'll get there.  Take care my friend!
Talk to you soon!

I am feeling better about my wt as I can see some changes. Still have a way to go but so much more energy. I am a realtor and yesterday I showed condos all on upper floors. I had no huffing and puffing and no knee pain. Thanks for the encouragement Viv

Hello again my friend,
I am so glad that changes have started to show their face!  I know how much it helps to keep us going when we see the scales tipping in our favor.
The energy factor is amazing, isn't it?  I feel like I have a jet propulsion engine strapped to my hiney! LOL  I know what you mean.  I can do so much more now.
You have one tough job!  I admire you!  That's terrific that you didn't have any problems showing properties on upper floors.  I had to have both my knees totally replaced.  They were both bone on bone.  It was so painful!  Now I have the knees of a 2 year old! lol  No pain at all!
I am so thrilled to hear that you are doing better!  I truly care about you and how you're doing.  We may have never met in person but we're in this together!  It's a sisterhood.  All of us are in this together for one common goal...good health...happiness...and a little "skinny" will be ok, too! lol
Take care.  Keep up the good work!  You're doing great!
Hugs to you,
Viv

Hello Laureen,
Thank you very much for your warm welcome.  I do believe this is an awesome place to come for support from those who truly understand what you are going through...be it good or difficult. (Hopefully more for the good!)    Thanks also for your encouragement.  I am doing great at this point and I am loving my journey.  It's even better now that I have new friends to share it with.
I am excited about continuing on my weight loss journey and enjoying all the changes it brings...both health wise and esthetically wise.  I must admit that it is fun to watch my clothing size keep shrinking! lol
Best to you in everything you do.  Thanks again!
Your friend,
Viv
