Can it really be my 4th year surgiversary!!

Aloha my OFF friends.......Just looked at the calendar and for sure it IS MY 4th year surgiversary today! Four years ago I weighed 320 lbs. and was on my way from Maui to Honolulu to have surgery. How embarrassing to be on the airplane and NOT be able to buckle my seatbelt.

What a life changing four years this has been! I'm quite tall....5'11" so my weight is best around 168 to 174. I got all the way down to 150 and was way too boney and skinny. People told me I looked bad. Now I'm back up to the high 160's and wouldnt mind being 173 or 174. I can still climb stairs and get up and down off the floor with ease, and have space left over in airplane seats....now THAT is a miracle.

Since I did go too low on the scale, I let up on my rigid eating plan which meant nothing white like bread, pasta, sugar, potatoes, etc. Now all those things (except white bread) go into my mouth regularly. My body for some reason likes to be quick in and quick out....so I'm not gaining weight in a scary way....I just don't want to gain any more.

Got some really bad news from Oregon a couple of days ago. My childhood sweetheart (grade school and high school) with whom I've kept up conversations over all these years decided to shoot and kill his wife, and then himself!! The call from my friend in Oregon really threw me for a loopl. All his e-mails to be were jokes, poltical satire, teasing lines like "Just wait.....I'm going to swim up on your beach one of these days." Not a sign of depression or giving up on life. His wife was very ill.....seizures and strokes that were going to put her into a convalescant home and she was frantic. I don't think my past boyfriend could stand seeing her in such distress, and made the HUGE decision to kill her and then himself. So very sad. He was only 67 and she was 65.

Maui is warm this time of year but very little humidity so very enjoyable to be at the beach or down on the lawn watching the ocean activites. I am working a lot lately with the babies in the hospital, so my lazy daze don't come around nearly as often as I'd like. In a few weeks my 2nd ex husband is coming for a visit from Las Vegas.....that will be fun. He came over a few years ago and we had a blast.....and I was FAT!! This time I will be able to snorkel with him, and barbeque, etc.

So much to share with you all,....but enough is enough.

I'm so thankful for this wonderful surgery and the tummy tuck I had that gives me a flat belly. Now I must work hard to maintain my weight right where it is. We'll see how that goes.

Good luck to all of you, and prayers to those in need....aren't we all???

Oh, how I'd love to wiggle my nose and have us all magically appear on the beach so we could talk outselves silly and then go out to dinner.

With so much aloha,

Maui Karen

Aloha Nan.....Five years! Wow. And are you maintaining your weight loss? Even though I'm still lower than goal, I do have a fear of suddenly climbing the scale again and having to get serious about changing my eating habits.

On Thurs. I will fly over to Honolulu to see my surgeon. It will be nice to see what he thinks.

Thanks for sharing, Nan.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Aloha Ruth and congratulations to you for doing it without the surgery. I have had plastic surgery, too....only just a tummy tuck a couple of years ago. It was delightful to have that fold on my belly gone. I didn't have to lift it in the shower any longer to wash!!

Now if I could just firm up my thighs and my arms I'd be a happy camper....a more happy camper!

Aloha nui loa,

Hi Dear One,

What a wonderful job you've done in these four years! Bet that #2 ex will be quite surprised!

So very sad about your friend and his wife. Too bad he didn't see any other alternative. And so young! Such a shame.

I know how very busy our lives become, but please DO try to pop in once a week or so just so we know you are still here. We all miss you terribly when you're not around!

Love, hugs and smoochies

Susan

Aloha my busy friend.......Thank you for your support and encouragment of all of us!! I am actually eager to see my Ex........he is a very handsome man, and my friends all like him a lot. He would love to move to Maui.....but we'll have to see about that.

Keep up the great work you are doing on yourself and on here!!

With so much aloha,

Maui Karen

Congrats, Karen. This is a real life-changing surgery. I sure am happy I had mine six years ago.

As for your friend and his wife, who knows what pushes anyone over the edge? Some people hold everything in and then they just boil over. Me, I babble on and have meltdowns. That lets someone know I need medication and some help. I think women are more likely to let someone know they need help; men hold their problems close to them. I know my dad was like that (although he didn't commit suicide).

I'd love to be on the beach ... although it's hot enough here in Louisiana.

Aloha Eileen.....Wow.....six years ago!! Do you manage to stay pretty much at goal? I was told the norm is to drop quite low, and then slowly gain back about 20 lbs. That seems like what I've done, and so far so good. Still not dying to get into a bathing suit and run down the beach with dreadlocks flying.....Ha......but would lay in the sun and tuck in loose skin discreetly......LOL.

You sound so much better these days.........like you are moving forward in a positive way and are growing. I could not be happier for you.

Aloha nui loa,

I regained 20 pounds ... dropped to 167, which was my goal, to lose half my weight. I would like to drop that 20 pounds, and probably would do better if I would exercise and lay off the tortilla chips (which I love).

I am not a beach-lover ... if I get out in the sun, I lather on the sunscreen SPF 40 or higher because I'm so fair and burn even through a car window. I got into a swimsuit even at 350 pounds and went into the pool, and damn anyone who criticized me! I was in one to exercise, not to show off my body. That's still how I feel. But I still won't wear shorts ... my thighs are really ugly and I feel uncomfortable in them. I love capris, though.

Yes, I'm better ... I feel so comfortable here. There's plenty of work for me to do, I'm starting to regain my skills that were rusty after five months of nonuse. I'm in pain at work at night, but I'm happy to be working again.
