So sorry to hear about your dad Ruth.  I hope you are able to spend as much time with him as possible.   No matter how old we are, they are still our parents and mean so very much to us!

I've been AWOL myself due to busy busy busy.  Seems we're never home on the weekends.  Two weeks ago I went to Des Moines for a support group meeting and met a couple of OH friends who had lap band.  We went to lunch and had a nice visit.

Last weekend we took a trip to Illinios to visit my parents and brothers.  We try to go every 2 months, as Mom is 80 and Dad 82.  They are both still in relatively good health (although if you ask Mom, she isn't).  I cry every time we leave and Mom does too.

Yesterday I spent with our daughter, SIL and 2 grandkids at a cabin.  We had a wonderful day and it was fun watching the girls (age 4 and 20 months) fishing.  They were so thrilled to catch fish.  Jett, the youngest wanted to hold the fish (and did), but Sena was afraid of them.

They will come here next weekend as it is our daughter's 15 year class reunion.  They'll have a family picnic during the daytime then we'll watch the girls while they spend the rest of the reunion "for classmates only".

Sena calls us the "far, far away grandma and grandpa", as SILs parents live close by.  She never wants me to leave.  We are 2  hours from them, but to a 4 year old, 2 hours is far, far away.

We'll get to have them for over a week starting 8/6 so I'm really looking forward to that.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Welcome, I'm Karen. I'm in and out busy with making up for lost time. I had RNY in 2005 and got my life back!! You will too. What kind of surgery did you have? Hang around with us: we laugh, complain, grouse about being bored, but most of all we become friends and a lot of support for each other in good times and bad. Doesn't matter where we live across this continent we find that common thread among ourselves. What can we call you and whereabouts do you live? I'm just nosey. I love to know a little bit about each person that posts. Feel free to read my profile. I haven't updated it in way too long but I kept it pretty current for a couple of years. Duh! Just noted: Mineral Point, MO. Where is that? I have lots of family in MO: Fredericktown, Rolla, Edgar Springs, Licking, Houston, St. Louis, Columbia, Sikeston, Van Buren, Springfield. .  . .

With RNY it was at least 2 or 3 weeks before  I had much more than broth, sugar free popsicles, thinned cream soups. At about 2 weeks out I stay my Champion Pure Whey chocolate protein shakes. I still ldrink one most mornings when I take my  supplemental vitamins. I never had much  trouble with gas except for yellow cheese, but that bothered me before surgery also. It will get better.  We have another Carolyn here who also had lap band.

Ruth,

I am catching up on what I missed the last couple of days, as I have not been here as often as usual either, work keeps me hopping and then it is summertime and my weekends are busier than usual (and that is saying something for me (lol); so no matter how often, we are always happy to see you. ..  I sincerely hope the situation surrounding your Dad smoothes out, it is never easy to watch ones' parent age and decline.

Sending prayers and hugs your way. . .

Wishing you peace and strength to get through these tough times.

Laureen
