what's new-TGIF
Hi Margo, Friday couldn't get here soon enough. We had our roofs replaced this week from all the hail we hadlast month. I had 3 roofs taken off and replaced in 1 day. Whew! It made me dizzy watching them. This weekend is Oregon Trail Days in Nebraska. We are going to the car show and maybe to the food fair. Tomorrow is the parade and craft fair. It is supposed to get to 100 degrees. I will pass on the parade. I might just stay home with a glass of iced tea.

Hi Margo and everyone on OFF,
T.G.I.F. ... I guess, lol.
Nothing new here. It's still excessively hot and humid and I'm still basically hiding indoors where it's air conditioned and cool. Kristin's still recuperating and we're still watching movies, reading books, and just chatting.
No new updates from the bank of Satan, everything's the same.
Zzzzzzzzz, LOL.

Hi Margo and my OFF family:
Had a rough night at work last night. I was scheduled to do Opelousas A1, so I pulled the front page to start on it, only to learn that Bonnie, who usually does it but was supposed to be off, had decided to come in and switch days off. OK, fine ... I figured she just wanted to be there to supervise and "mentor" me.
So I started on the front page and what was supposed to be the jump page ... sat there waiting for copy ... didn't get anything other than some photos and death notices and cops until 7 p.m. and deadline is 8:30 p.m. Then, I realized my stories were all too long to fit on the jump page, so I told Bonnie and we started pulling stories off another page to get room. So in all that reconfiguring, I wound up getting my pages out late. I had my A1 done all but the "skyboxes" ... the little teasers up in the flag ... and the rail teasers ... the stuff down the left side ... and went to doing that while she worked on the jumps. But then she went to looking over my pages at the end and started fiddling with things. All the while, she was grumbling about being late ... well, I knew that, and I apologized ... but gee, I had an hour and a half to basically get three pages out. I didn't want to be late, and it wasn't like I was screwing around once I got copy. I was hustling to get things done. But right now, my skills aren't up to speed yet.
Anyway, after we got the page out, Bonnie turned around, brusquely walked out for a break and then didn't bother to say anything to me for the rest of the night ... no critique or anything. I just went about proofing pages ... proofed the Monroe sports page and found one big error in a headline that the copy editor failed to fix (saw it in the paper this morning ... young guy that I swear doesn't read the stories at all, just throws them on the page****pt my mouth shut the rest of the night and just did my job. I was so tired. It was kind of a stressful night. I think I'm down to do Monroe sports tonight, so we'll see what I have to do.
Anyway, yesterday I went into the apartment complex pool ... yes, Margo, it is at the apartment complex, so it's free; there's also a fitness center. The pool is nice, very warm ... naturally heated. Don't know what it will be like in the fall, however. It's an outdoor pool, so I have to share it with the bugs and the feathers falling off the birds and falling petals from the flowering trees. And of course it's hot outside, but the pool feels nice.
I'm really tired today ... went to bed about 1:30 a.m., woke up at 2:30 in pain from my back and knee, so I took another vicodin, put some Biofreeze on my back and read for awhile. I'm reading this fascinating book about Jamestown ... historical fiction a woman wrote while researching her ancestor.
Anyway, I guess I've babbled on long enough. Have a good day. Stay cool.

Dark Enough to See the Stars in the Jamestown Sky
The ancestor she writes about is Joan Peirce; apparently a real person, who in the preface she says she saw a re-enactor in Jamestown tell her story. Which is pretty cool. Joan came over on The Blessing, one of the ships that was struck in a hurricane; the ship Sea Venture was thought to be lost, all the leaders were on there ... they wound up being swept to the Bermudas and came back as most of the settlers were dying from starvation. Peirce survived; her husband was on the Sea Venture. I bought the book in Williamsburg and was told it was very good ... and it is. I'm almost done with it.
Just got "Captive Queen" by Allison Weir, about Eleanor of Aquitaine ... Weir is a historian and now writing historical fiction too. I've read her biography of Eleanor and it was very good.

Here's my quick shout out... I'm on the way for a PAP smear... YUCK. I have been lax in that test... I had one a couple of years ago and the doctor found a polyp. He decided to just slice it off quickly. Too bad it turned into a ten minute process with lots of pain and blood. Now I'm scared of the PAP and put it off. I'm just really hoping I'll be polyp-free today! I'll be glad when it's all done! This medical stuff can be a pain in the a--, and I hear that it just gets worse as we age. I'd better get to getting! Happy Friday ladies!
