Sunday Ramblings! What's going on in YOUR life?

Good morning, everybody!  Yup! It's me.  I do check in a few times a week...I love living in the boonies but this dial up really sucks..it takes forever to open anything.

My life has been hectic.  I still do my water workout three times a week...Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays for three hours at a time. That's along time to be jogging in the water and using those foam resistance logs in my hands but now, after six months, I'm finally seeing the results.

For everyone who despairs over a scales that never seems to move (or just the old routine of up and down a few pounds-same old, same old!), please listen.

Now Ive been TOLD this before but never experienced it.  As a result, I grew impatient, depressed and discouraged...just like you!  But this time, I somehow remained determined to continue with my water exercise...I'd already gotten past the "walking in public areas in a bathing suit".  The seniors there no longer ask about my strange looking badly swollen legs.

But I went to the special weightloss clinic up in Burlington last month and handed in all my daily food intake sheets (I totally hate doing them because who has time to stop and record every bite??   ...add to that, every day needs to be totalled as to calories, fibre, fat, protein and carbs!  I complained about not losing anything tho my clothes are hanging on me and they measured me. I have LOST eight inches off my waist and four inches off my hips! How can this happen while I dont see numbers changing on the scales?

It's because the water exercise is buiklding muscles! and muscles weigh more than fat! Yes, been told all that forever BUT now it's starting to sink in.

Well, last week, I got weighed in the morning as always...and discovered that the scale has moved...TEN POUNDS overnight!

I bounced on the scales...got back on...moved the scales...got back on....six times I got weighed and always the same number.

I was in shock but VERY grateful! If it was a dream , PLEASE dont wake me up! Let me die happy!

Then I remembered something..the PHYSIOLOGY OF LOSING WEIGHT.  The fat we carry on our body is hard..it takes time to soften and melt as the calories and physical exercise works it's magic...and then, and only then, after the fat deposits actually soften and melt to liquid, and is excreted, that the weight on the scale can change.

After three whole very long months of "staying the same", I had this monumental drop.  And now my weight again varies...two or three pounds each day...but now from this NEW number.

So please don't get discouraged...if I can finally see a difference after three discouraging months of faithful exercising and "mindful eating", so WILL YOU!  Patience isnt easy but it is still the key.

The same days that I do my pool work, I also lead several LifePath groups...three times a week.  Some evenings, I'm so exhausted that I fall asleep on the couch and wake up in the dark alone.

But I do enjoy it all...never thought I'd ever enjoy exercise but the water makes it all so easy for me and my lymphodema is really improving.  Not only have I had to buy a whole new wardrobe in sizes I've not worn in decades, but even my support stockings had to be re-measured for smaller sizes. I've gone from my highest at size 32 (if I could find that size) now to a size 22 and last week I bought a size 20...havent worn THAT size since I was 19...wow!!

People are really noticing now and making comments and I've been "hit on" so often lately that my head is reeling still.  Holy Moly!!  NO more diets for me...diet has DIE in it! I prefer MINDFUL EATING and six or seven tiny snacks a day (prescribed by my weight management doctor who specializes in this)instead and lots of water still.  I'm also still very careful to take all my supplements...no slacking off there.  So, even tho I never did get to my goal weight, I am finally losing again and feeling so good and strong.

So try not to get discouraged...that just sucks our energy and enthusiasm out of us.  It's hard to be patient but it does work.

Have an awesome day and Happy "Fourth of July" to all of my American friends!  Please be safe and well.

Nancy - you are an inspiration.
I am seven months out from RNY, and the scale seems to have stopped somewhere around 177 lbs.  I want to lose more although I am thrilled to be where I am.
I have become somewhat discouraged because I cannot get my waist to become smaller, and I know what a health hazard having fat around my waist is, but when I see the difference that jogging in the water has made for you, I want to run to a pool and then run in the pool!
Good for you for sticking with your routine!

Nancy, you're such an inspiration in so many ways!  Congratulations on a great achievement!

I read on your FB that you had a wolf in your yard. Wish I could see it....but from a much farther distance that your DH!

Not a lot going on here. I've asked Gary to help me take the bed down in my office/spare bedroom. No one is coming any time soon, and we have a great airbed that we can use if a single person comes, which is usually the case. I've decided if we're stuck in this house I'm going to make it into something I love. It's going to take time and some $$, but I'll go crazy if I don't do something about it.

I received some extra special tips this week and I think I'm going to buy a Nook. Gary has one, loves it, and has tons of books loaded onto it. Problem is, he tells me about a great book he's reading, and then I have to go out and buy or borrow the actual book when he's already paid for it on his Nook. So, this way we can lend back and forth. Maybe if I start reading again I'll stop the mindless staring at the computer/eating crap!

Okay gang. Have a great and happy day!

Nancy,

How wonderful for you. Exercise has never been enjoyable until I started with the water program. I'd live in the heated pool if possible. Thanks for the continued inspiration and encouragement.

We are going to hang out at home. Tom's gout is so painful. He offered to go someplace but nah - it wouldn't be fair to him.

I cleaned out the wire hangers from the spare closet. Those buggers multiply in the dark.

Happy Fourth to all.Smiley Fireworks

Morning Nancy, Susan and Annette...

Nancy I too have lymphaedema in my left ankle and leg...water aerobics has helped greatly.  I love exercising in the pool..unfortunatly I have been removed from the class until I can get cardiac clearance due to atrial fibrillation...AND I MISS MY CLASS !!!!
I just found out the other day that my 80 year old mom...needs heart surgery to remove her pace maker and replace it.  Her surgery is scheduled for Wed. ...no stress there..this will be her 4th or is it 5th surgery.  Then on THursday I will see the same cardiologist and hopefully he will let me return to the water class.

got to run...on my way to the grocery store..barbecue at my house today..already I'm wishing it was over...
have a great 4th of July all...

Good mornin', ya'll.

I have just recently started back at our gym and water aerobics classes.  I really do enjoy them. But first I make myself do 30 minutes on the treadmill. A lot of the ladies in the class go out for lunch afterwards.  I have a real problem getting clothes on when I am damp. So I throw a cover-up over my suit and go home.  My DH helps me get dressed after my shower. BUT...September I am getting this left shoulder replaced and I'll be able to do ALL the water aerobics, and get dressed myself after class.  I can hardly wait!!

Our daughter called yesterday to reserve me for the end of October.  I go out there every year and watch her kidlets while her hubby goes with her on a big convention thing.  Last year I went in the middle of my chemo.  This year I'll be recovering from the shoulder replacement.

I decided on oreo cookie dessert for the July 4th barbq.  Thanks for the orange dessert recipe.  I will try that soon, but the boys would rather have chocolate.  I have been making it with reduced fat oreos, low fat cream cheese, skim milk, and lite cool whip.  No one can tell the difference.

Only one grandson for breakfast this morning.  The other went to the beach early with his Mom and others. Both grandsons went 4 wheelin' yesterday.  When they got back the oldest came down with his girlfriend to watch a movie.  They were both sound asleep in 10 minutes.  Sher sure is a cheap date.

I hope ya'll have a safe and sane 4th of July.  And remember your pets.  If you are going out and leaving them alone, many of them get very scared when fireworks go off. Even if you are home, be mindful of their fear.

Have a fantabulous day!!

Hi Nancy and my OFF family:

Well, last night at work I got my wish and got a page to do ... I should be careful what I wish for. It was just short of a disaster. Who knew that a pagination program I was so familiar with in Grand Rapids could be so different down here ... I haven't used it for five months, and I didn't know where anything was in their system, screwed things up and finally the woman helping me had to take the page away and fini**** because we were behind deadline. I've never missed a deadline (unless the computer crashed). I felt pretty much like a failure. But anyway, back at it this week ... I'm scheduled to do pages all week, so they're throwing me in the deep end. I'd better learn quickly.

I have three days off, so I have a lot of unpacking to do. I went to the grocery store and picked up some groceries ... I had nothing in the house but a bunch of canned goods and about six eggs and some milk, some protein bars and some cheese cubes. Not a whole lot. Bought a rotisserie chicken ... it was overdone ... for dinner, some salad, some ham deli meat, cheese ... I'm going to have plenty until I get paid Friday. Then I have to get cat supplies ... Scooter's almost out of food.

Well, not much going on here ... jus****ching baseball and unpacking, relaxing. It's 94 degrees ... just going to the grocery store down the street left me all sweaty.

Anyway, have a good 4th of July holiday ... we all stepped outside last night at work and watched the fireworks ... it was nice.
