Here we go---sailing this boat together! Recipes today
My Mom used to put together a fresh green bean salad from our vegetable garden every summer:
Green beans, cut in about 1-1/2 inch lengths, steamed or boiled till just tender
Cut up fresh tomatoes
Cucumbers, sliced or chunked.
Shreds of chicken or beef roast, not a huge amount, or whatever meat was left from a previous meal. Or skip the meat.
Onions, sliced thin, if desired.
I also like to add chick peas.
Pour in Italian dressing to taste. Again, not a lot. (Mom made her own oil and vinegar dressing, but I use bottled light Italian). Let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours, stirring a few times.
Yummy, fresh, and cheap! And it gets better the longer it sits.
Have a good 4th, everyone. I'm going to an air conditioned movie.

At work, they have been having a green bean salad with ham but very little ham. BUT they also have chopped up ham for salads. I get the green bean salad and then the extra ham. However, since you mentioned it.. I'll make my own and by Tuesday, if I don't eat it all tomorrow, I'll have a good salad for lunch.
