Rowing, sailing, and just paddling along. What's on your plate?

Good morning one and all. Our crew isn't as big as it was, but those of us here are a dedicated few!

It seems as though there is a common theme here about weight gain, grazing, mindless eating, and difficulty maintaining. Gee, ya think? Aren't these the same problems we had BEFORE surgery? We all need to remember that the surgery was about 2 feet away from where these problems occur, and were not treated in the OR.

BE STRONG CREW!  Get rid of the crap in your house. Set a timer if you have to and don't allow yourself a snack or meal until that timer goes off. Find something to do with your hands. Learn to knit, crochet, or scrapbook. Do what Candy is doing and clean out file cabinets. There are plenty of things to do besides eat. But, when you do eat, and we all NEED to eat, make it count for heaven's sake!

Trust me, I'm not self righteous one bit. I have my troubles in the evening, and I tend to eat too much when we go out with friends. So....are we sailing together or sinking together? What's it going to be?

Okay, today I'm cleaning house. Not just straightening up, CLEANING. Scrubbing, mopping, the whole enchalada. Ought to count for some sort of exercise, right?

Yesterday:

cottage cheese, applesauce and LF granola
fiber 1 bar
turkey/swiss on Sandwich Thin
Pad Thai
watermelon

4, yes, 4 SF FF lattes. 80 oz water, all supplements and such

Hope everyone has a wonderful day

Susan

Here goes.  Yesterday was the first day in longer then I care to admit that I did good.  Today will make it two in a row.....In a perfect world.

2 coffee
B:  cottage cheese and grapes
S:  Yogurt and 2 prunes (yeah, well, gotta go...)
S:  Orange protein drink (too early for lunch...)
L:   chicken breast and asparagus (couldn't manage more than a few bites, not sure why)
S:  more chicken breast and asparagus
Iced coffee x 2
D:  bagel thin and peanut butter
SoBe water (20 oz)
S:  orange jello dessert (ff/sf)
Orange drink (12 oz)
2 multi vits and one calcium

I listed the liquids, too, because I never drink enough, and when I do, it's usually coffee.  Almost 90 oz today.  Yes, I'm counting EVERYthing, even the coffee..

I'm doing good so far today.  I know, I know, it's not even 10 am yet.

Thank you, Susan, for not giving up on us.

Hi Susan and OH buddies:

Well! I am totally chastised.  It's like you have been living at my house for the past two weeks.  Grazing is a real problem.  Now that school is out and I don't seen able to get a summer job, I find myself at odds and reaching for the goodies.

I'm replacing the carpet in my bedroom with wood laminate, and I've been packing everything so Salvation Army can take my old bedroom set and we can remove the carpet, paint the room, and my sons can install the laminate.

You have inspired me to de-clutter, clean and reorganize the rest of the house.  It should keep me out of the kitchen for the next 2 months.

Today's plan:

B - Fiber one cereal and 1/2 cup skim milk
S - havarty cheese and 2 melba toast.
L - Beef and broccoli
S - muscle milk light
D - Shrimp and green salad
S -  1 cup skim milk.

Happy rowing y'all,

Maria

Well, you never know where I might pop up!  LOL

It's too hot to go outside, so I'm getting in my exercise via mob and vacuum. I kind of like it better. Weird, huh?

Well..the verdict according to the NEW dietician is..I don't eat enough carbs and I don't eat enough PERIOD !

So today...I must eat 15 carbs per feeding...for a total of 8 feedings throughout the day..

  Here goes...
   Protein shake with 1/2 banana
1 graham cracker (the whole thing) with 2 tbsp. Peanut butter
Lunch will be 1/2 greek yogurt with SF pudding and 1/2 cheerios
Snack  graham cracker with peanut butter again or 1/2 banana
Dinner...beans with salsa and a poached egg (I think)
Snack again 1/2 banana or peanut butter
Snack popcorn with peanut butter or with a cheese stick.

This is getting hard to remember 15 gr. of carbs per feeding plus trying to get in all of my needed protein.
Sure glad school is over so I can get out pencil and paper and try to come up with a viable menu.. ON WE GO !!!!

Hi Marcy, glad to see you here!

Carbs give people fits. Did you know you need a MINIMUM of 50 grams of carbs a day for proper brain function? Good old Dr Atkins died of a heart attack, so the high protein only thing isn't what people thought either. It's all about balance, balance, balance. It never made any sense to me to eliminate one whole food group that's so important from our diets. Sure, we need extra protein, but when you add, say brown rice to black beans, you complete the equation and have a complete protein.

May I suggest you find another cereal to add to your Greek yogurt besides Cheerios? We have a registered dietitian in our support group who says any RD worth their salt would never recommend Cheerios to a patient. There are much better cereals out there, you have to read the labels. I like the new Low Fat Special K granola. Only 1/4 cup adds a bunch of crunch to yogurt or cottage cheese, and about 100 calories. It's my "go to' add-in.

As the summer progresses and you learn to combine foods the right way, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Stick with it, and stick around here and we'll all do what we can to help!

Thanks Susan !!!  I'm going to need all the help I can get...she told me cheerios cause its a puffed cereal..lower in carbs and in sugar.  I have to be careful cause not enough carbs is bad, but I still dump and have hypoglycemia...this is a definate balancing act.

I would appreciate any help I can get cause this is confusing...goes against all the bariatrics tell us.

So I will hang on and keep posting...feel free to tell me when I'm eating something wrong or bad.  I can take it !

Swimmer  Sink or swim? I'd rather swim.

Great pep talk Susan. If we didn't need the support we get from each other, we probably wouldn't have needed WLS in the first place.

It is forever too, not just until we reach goal.

I'm having one of my "feel fat" days and have to overcome the urge not to eat anything. It's mental and drives me nuts. So, I will eat by the clock.

Breakfast and lunch (same old stuff) = done
D - chicken & green beans
S - peanut butter and apple
