Hello everyone,
I have a question about our eyes. have you noticed any difference in your vision?  Mine seems to be changing and I heard somewhere it was a side effect of the surgery?????

Hi
That's a new one to me, but then I've only been around here for a few years.    My suggestion would be to call your surgeon or your eye doctor.

My eyesight actually improved after my surgery, however I don't really think this had anything to do with my RNY. I have always been near-sighted and I was so surprised when I saw my eye doctor 1 year after my surgery when he told me that the reason I was having difficulty seeing close was that I was over corrected for distance. My vision improved from a -5.50 to -4.75; he said this sometimes happens to middle-aged patients.

I agree....I think age has way more to do with it then RNY.

If you find out differently please let us know!!

Well, I didn't have RNY, but I have noticed a difference in my vision in the past year.  I finally went to the eye doctor (a new one, because the previous one moved away) and he said, "How long has it been since you had new glasses?"

Duh.

So the good news is that my new glasses are a big help.  The bad news is that my vision is still out of whack, and the eye doctor says that's extremely common in people my age (56).  He also told me that I have minor cataracts that may be affecting my vision...and that, too is extremely common in people my age.

my vision improved until i found out i have macular degeneration and starting cataracts--

however- a BIG side effect which i didn't expect----when you are losing weight and your cheeks aren't so chubby-your glasses FIT differently!!!!!!so your prescrip may not be helping where it needs to!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
