Hi Laureen and all my OFF friends,
I'm busy at work today but need a break.  I've used Freecycle to unload some of the stuff when cleaning out cupboards and closets.  It's amazing how fast people respond.  I put up a hot air popcorn machine.  Within two minutes I had 4 emails and the first email lady picked it up within two hours - wow.  I also got a nice booster seat for when the grandkids come.  Except for no-shows and having to relist, I've had no bad experiences.  It's so nice to know it's not going to a landfill.
No veggie garden this year although it was on my list of things to do.  I'm envious Laureen.  We would have to do so much fencing that we decided not to go with it this year.  We have a lovely woodchuck married couple who love vegetable gardens. LOL.
Saw our wild turkey hen this morning with her two chicks.  They were making their way across the lawn to under the bird feeder.  I made sure I watered my hanging plants this morning.  Our 90 degree weather just sucks the water out of them in a day.
On Saturday I'll be going to my cousins picnic.  It's to celebrate her son being home on leave from the military (air force).
Tonight is just more house cleaning before the grandkids come to stay.
Hugs to all who need them.

Bev,

I don't have woodchucks, at least none that I know of, but do have rabbits and chipmunks and then there are the worlds daringest squirrels, as in brazen like I've never seen in my life (lol), a couple of years back, my roommates b/f planted several tomato plants and a melon plant, well one day, I look out back and there is this squirrel sitting on the post of my stockade fence, the post that holds things in place, well anyway, there he sits looking at me, while eating a big beefsteak tomato that he pilfered out of Kevin's garden, it was funny as all hell, the way he jus****ched, almost daring us to say anything and so it went the whole season long, the squirrel came and chomped on our tomatoes, and as soon as Dillinger went out back, the squirrel would throw the tomato and take off, the thing was, he always seemed to take the best tomatoes. . .  this garden is not as accessible to the squirrels and I have it fenced off with chicken wire which hopefully will keep the other critters out of the garden. . . but I am sooo excited to see how quickly, almost overnight, there are lots of tomatoes and then this morning I saw my first bell pepper, there is one banana pepper, looks about ready to be eaten and there are several more of them, smaller in size, no cukes yet and we shall see about the honeydew that Diane planted, as when Kevin planted his cantalopes, we got a few that started growing, but never made it, one that did and my goodness, I will say, truthfully, it was the sweetest cantalope I ever tasted. . .  next year I may try some other things, but this was my first attempt at growing, so we shall just see. . .if you lived closer, I'd surely share, as I have a feeling I will have plenty of tomatoes. . .

Laureen,
I can picture your squirrel.  He/She sounds like quite a character.  While I was planting my pots and window boxes I kept finding nuts the squirrels had hidden in them.  We have hickory and butternut trees.  We love our wildlife but sometimes we would like to eat some of what we have but they get it first.  We have a beautiful patch of raspberries but the birds got them all.  The mulberry trees are ready now but I don't think we'll get any of those either.  The wineberries will be ripe in two weeks I think.  Next year I will have to get some netting.  Our currants have totally disappeared.  I think it was the mad "chop it all back" "genus husbandus" responsible for that.

Bill, my husband, made a squirrel-proof bird feeder.  It's far enough from the house and trees that they can't jump onto it.  He used 4" PVC toilet pipe for the pole.  The bird feeder is screwed on with a toilet flange 5' above the ground.  We have the best time watching the squirrels run and jump and hang on to the pole and then slowly slide down. It's like watching Wile E. Coyote come sliding down a wall.

I wish you lived closer too.  I'm a nut about tomatoes and summer squash/zucchini.  I hope you get to eat all yours.

Thanks Bev,

I certainly got a good chuckle when you spoke of the "genius husbandus" and his chop it all back syndrome.  . .  as well as picturing the squirrels madcap adventures sliding down the pole. . .  so nice of you to be taking care of our friendly neighbors in the wild. . .  lol

Have a great day!

Hugs, L

Hi Girls,
I'm still in SF... my tests all came back good. I'm off the hook for another six months. My friends came and last night we went with my BIL and SIL to eat and to the Buena Vista for Irish Coffees. We had so much fun! I have one more night here - not sure what is in store.
Hope all is well with you!

Great news!  And in 6 months, the news will remain positive, I'm sure.

So, while you're still in SF, why don't you take a ride down Lombard Street for me and Thelma, and look for Jim......?

I will NEVER forget that ride!

Wonderful news Julia! Is I-5 north in your summer agenda? If so I'll probably be here in Chehalis should you come by.

That's great news, Julia! I'm so happy for you! I'm going to consume a beer in your honor (oh, it's my moving-in beer, but I'll drink to your good health, too.)
