Bruises
I had Gastric Bypass 1/15/10 and have lost over 70 pounds. I am 51 years young and I have recently noticed two distressing things. Well, only two extremely distressing things! First the hair loss which I am told is only temporary and should stop in a few months. I have started taking zinc for that. The other thing that concerns me is bruises. I seem to have bruises everywhere now and don't remember doing anything that would cause them. I think some of them on my forearm may have been caused just by carrying my purse (which is a rather small purse). I have never bruised this easily before and was wondering if anyone else has had this side effect?

Hi, way to go on your fantastic weight loss so far!!! About the hair loss, I took biotin twice a day and that really helped too. It really is a normal after-effect and it'll slow down and stop. It's just *very* disconcerting to see all that hair loss! :P
I bruised *very* easily before surgery but that was a result of diabetes. I still bruise kind of easily but not like before. Maybe it's caused by a vitamin deficiency too? I'm not sure. Try googling causes of bruising and see what comes up. You can always bring it up to your doc, it's a legitimate concern!

Hi.....as for the hair....you are right...it will stop about 8 months out or so. I am taking Biotin as well.
I bruise much easier too. I blame it on getting older. I did have diabetes and thought that was why at that time. I no longer am diabetic...thanks to WLS....so now it is a mystery.
If you find out anything differently please let me know. I just had all my numbers checked and I am right where I need to me so no deficiencies there.
I hope you find the answers to your questions.

I always bruised easily, but lately it has gotten worse. I'm 6 years out, and now along with the bruising, I'm havng these horrible blood spots. I showed them to the bariatric center PA, and he suggested I see a hemotologist. I have been showing them to my PCP, and all he would say was, "well, let me know if they continue." My bloodwork at 6 years came out fine, except I was low in potassium and protein again. I started taking an extra potassium pill; don't know why I'm low in protein, since I seem to ingest plenty, I think. I take 1,500 calcium citrate now (new vitamin rules by my bariatric center), 2,000 vitamin D, one iron, one Vit. C 500 mg. 1,000 B12, 2 multis.
When I get down to Louisiana and get settled, I'm going to find a new PCP and have him/her check these out.
