Had mine at 58 and am 60 now... only thing I regret is not doing it 20 years ago.
My DH has said he only feels bad that he can't keep up with me now - but he has a heart condition.

Dear ekolpack,

I was 61 when I had my RNY in October, 08.  My type 2 diabetes resolved immediately  and of course I have now lost over 70 lbs.  I feel great.

The only thing my doctor required due to my age was a cardiac evaluation, and that went fine--saw a cardiologist, had an EKG--no problems anticipated, and none during or post-operative.

Of course I had the usual range of adjustments post-op, mostly learning what I could and could not eat, learning to eat more slowly, what a portion really should look like [funny how surgery on your belly changes how your eyes see things].  Down side:  I can no longer eat down feelings and must now, at age 63, learn to deal with situations in life that I would just avoid and/or eat over.  This has sometimes been hard for me.  But learning new skills has been worth it, whether they are tangible, like a new sport, or interpersonal skills, like dealing with difficult situations at work [a big one for me].

I am doing things now that I have not done for 20 years.  I feel better than I have in 20 years.  Was it worth it?  You bet!!!!!!!!

Good luck in your journey.
