Hi Judy,
hope your back is feeling better today. Mine is... I'm weaning off the pain meds a little at a time. Today my daughter drove me past the site of my accident. I can't believe that I chose to go off the road at that particular spot- it was the deepest ravine of any place on that whole freeway.  I didn't cry or feel scared. Then we went to see my car. It definitely has seen better days, but it wasn't totally crushed either. It was very bloody. The tow truck driver that hauled it up (it took two trucks) said it evidently did a forward somersault that accordianed the trunk and then flipped sideways the rest of the way down the hill. He said it emptied debris from the trunk all the way down- diet pepsi, cat food, umbrellas, sweaters, cds- they tried to pick up everything and they did a good job. The woman who helped me with the transaction said that she was surprised to see me and very glad that I was doing so well- she had worried because she saw so much blood that she thought I was in terrible shape. My daughter took lots of pictures. Then I said goodbye to my car. Again- no crying or fear.... then tonight I started researching new cars.
I'm still awake because I took a long nap this afternoon. Tomorrow I will rest until TOPS. My daughter is going to be my driver. I'm thinking I might be up to test driving cars in a couple of days. THAT'S PROGRESS!

Good morning all.  Been a busy two weeks, and will continue to be so for another week or so.  My last day off from my full time job was May 15th.  My next day off is June 1.  I have had one day this month, I think, that I did not work either job.  But that's alright.  Grab the money while I can, don't know what will happen in the next few months.  They said there will be no changes for the first 100 days.  All indications are they intend to integrate the two systems and our jobs will continue.

Oh well, just wanted to say hi.  Back to my Nook.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Hi, Judy and everyone to follow.

My mother has suffered a hip fracture (fractured her sacrum two months ago).  She was in the hospital this weekend for the fracture and also to get treatment for a severe UTI.  Since she has an advanced directive that states there are to be nothing more than comfort measures taken, they did not do surgery on her hip.

I have asked that she be evaluated for hospice because I understand they do an exceptional job of keeping patients pain free.  Mom has been suffering for the last two months and now has this fresh fracture.  We just don't want her to suffer any more.

The fellow at hospice told me that they will put her on it and will re-evaluate her in 30 days.  If there is improvement, such as weight gain, she would be taken off it at that point.  They would re-start hospice whenever it is needed.

Mom's diagnosis is dementia and there have been no predictions as to her life span.  Normally, hospice is started with people who have six months or less.  The ER doctor said mom will likely not recover from this fracture.

Ron and I are heartbroken that the rehab dr. hasn't done a better job of alleviating her suffering.  We are demanding that she be kept comfortable for whatever time she has left.

She has osteoporosis and could fracture a hip sitting on the toilet.  THIS IS A BIG WAKE UP CALL for us.  TAKE YOUR CALCIUM and do STRENGTH TRAINING.  And, get bone density scans done periodically to make sure that you are healthy bone wise.

Sorry to be preaching.

Hope you all have a great day.  Take good care of yourselves.

Cindy,

I hope that your Mom can be made comfortable, sadly, it seems more is done for our animals than for the human population. . .

Also, thanks for the reminder about taking our calcium supplements, I sometimes forget to take it. . .

Sending you hugs and wishing you peace and strength for whatever goes on. . .

Laureen

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  But thunderstorms predicted for this afternoon.  I go back to work today.  I saw the surgeon yesterday for my gall bladder  post-op visit.  Everything looks good.  I love my job, but don't want to go back today.  I want to stay home and enjoy the weather.  Oh well.  This afternoon I have to go to a training in a town about 45 miles from here.  While there I'll get a new battery for our camper.

We haven't camped in it yet this season.  With the holiday weekend coming up, our camp group is getting together.  Our daughter and family are planning to come down for part of the weekend and our son and family are part of the regular camping group.  I expect good times. :o)

Everyone have a nice day.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Good morning Judy - nice to see you start the thread....
Julia, you are such a strong lady.....don't know if I could do what you've done.....I've been by the accident scene where I was injured and it gives me the creeps every time.....and it's been 36 yrs.  I do remember the journey from then on, that's for sure, with all the issues I've had since my hip was broken.

Cindy P. - sorry to hear about the problems you're having.  Regarding the bone density scan - I just had one and at 71 I am in the normal range, with an actual 1.1% increase since last year.  Don't have to get another one now for 2 yrs.   Hurrah for those big honkin' calcium citrate tablets.

I'm drinking a big glass of 1/2 water 1/2 crystal lite and everytime I take a drink it makes my pouchie hurt......guess I'll find out next week if I have an ulcer, when Dr. Kemmeter does an endoscopy .  I know something isn't right ...

Enjoyed a nice long chat with Debbie (Roseyno) last evening.   It's good to get acquainted with newer folks.

Glad to see you're still around, George -- we've been missing you.

Better get some breakfast now -- think it's gonna be yogurt.

Have a great day -- we're in for another """hot""" one here.

Pat R,

Hi Judy and my OFF family:

It was a hot one yesterday ... for awhile my AC wasn't cooling very well but once the day started to cool, the AC kicked in a little better. Plus, my ice maker wasn't working very well. And I live on ice water. I had called two places to get the AC looked at ... one could get here on Friday, the other today or Wednesday. Now I have to call back and cancel. Oh well.

Got a couple of appointments for estimates on movers; today I call around for rental trucks. That's my other option. Called a couple of apartments yesterday in Monroe, La.; one said I had to have 30-days of employment before I could rent there ... so where am I supposed to live before that ... on the street? She suggested a motel.  I kept calling, found a place that the copy desk chief lives at, they have an a 2-bdrm. apt. on the ground floor ... Iiked that complex a lot. So I'm sending out my deposit today and hope I get it. They accept cats, too. A lot of places didn't, or only allowed one. I have so much to do to get this move going.

Today, I'm going to get the oil changed in my car and have them look at the AC ... it's not working. To get the AC recharged, it's $98 ... if that's all it costs, that's OK, but if something else is wrong, I'm going to look for a new car.

So anyway, another busy day; also want to start going through stuff and pitching and packing. I have to send off my check for Cobra insurance; I'll have to pay that for 90 days after I start my new job because I won't have insurance right away.

Well, that's all that's going on with me. Have a good day.
