WHAT'S NEW, TUESDAY EDITION
Howdy. Not much new for me. Ron's arthritic back and neck are not allowing him to sleep for more than a couple of hours. We are beginning to think of getting a new mattress. Ours is just a couple of years old but it doesn't seem to be working for him any longer.
OT Questions: Do you have trouble with your back and, if so, what brand mattress do you sleep on? Does it help you get a good night's rest?
We've had a Sleep Number bed before. That worked good for him for a couple of years and then we had to replace it with the mattress we have now which worked for a couple of years. He is thinking a Tempeur Pedic (sp?). Do you have experience with that mattress?
Have a good day.

Cindy,
To answer your question about the bed. . . suggest you go to a place that sells the Tempeur Pedic bed and try it out, I did and did not like it, but settled on a bed that is latex and foam, with a 30 year warranty, first 10 years they will replace it totally if there is any defect. . . I forget the brand I bought, but I remember it was a "Vera Wang" and I promise I did not buy it because of it bearing her name, but of the beds I laid on, that was the most comfortable and I've had it about 6 months now and I sleep really well on it, but I don't usually have sleep problems since I've had my WLS. But no issues with my back, unless I use too many pillows and crink my neck ;) Most places that sell beds, will give you a 30 day try out, though some will charge you a bit (maybe $50 or $100) if you decide you don't want it. Just my thoughts on the whole bed thing. . .

Cindy, the Novafoam contoured pillow sold at Costco helps me a lot. Also I thought I had rotator problems or my arthritic neck was causing arm pain also. One cortisone shot has helped immensely with the artritic shoulder. don't know if the neck is a possibility. That pillow has helped me more than anything. It takes some getting used to tho. Let me know if you find a mattress that works. Mike sure has a hard time and we've tried so many also.

Hi Cindy and OFF Family,
Cindy, I think the number bed is just a marketing gimmick.
Sometimes older people just have problems sleeping....
I do have a back back but with exercise and sometimes just going into my hot tub before I go to bed relaxes me. I never did like my ex's water bed...yuck!
Work is busy and this week is flying by. We are doing annual training for our volunteers. Joint Commission is suppose to be dropping in sometime at our hospital I work at.
I need to clone myself! LOL
It's raining here today...all day, so no walk during my break time. Will get to the gym after work though.
I'm leading support group tonight at the gym for Bariatrics. Ben the leader is an RN and is getting an award tonight at the Nursing Rec. Dinner and he got a scholarship too. Wwwoohhhhooo Ben!!
Hugs and prayers for all in need. Do something special just for you today! Hugs- Debbie

Good morning Cindy. I can't help you with the mattress question other than we considered a tempur pedic too. But I found out how heavy they are and the "tempur" part generates heat from your body. I get plenty of heat from hot flashes, so we decided against it. LOL
I didn't want a pillow top mattress because I think they are too soft for my taste. We ended up with a "plush top". Not quite a pillow, but sof top and firm mattress. I love it!
Trying to keep my mind from thinking about gall bladder surgery on Thurs. It's strange, but I'm more nervous about this than I was VSG! How crazy is that?! I think it's because the VSG was a new beginning for me and I was looking forward to that. Also, I still have some weakness from VSG (the doctor says it's because my liver enzymes are off whack due to the gall bladder). I just don't look forward to having a set back in my endurance level.
Have a great day.

Wanda,
My gall bladder was so bad that I was turning yellow. It had to be done open.
Recovery was not bad at all and I am a complete wimp.
I didn't realize how bad I felt from the gall bladder until it was removed. Then I felt wonderful.
Good luck - you will be better than ever in no time at all.
Kisses

Hi Cindy and everyone,
Have day off today, going to do something for myself. Yesterday was hectic and very draining. Went to bed early, but kept waking up.
I don't know about mattress's. I need a new one myself. I have back problems too and wonder if it is my bed. Could be.
I have also stopped carrying my purse the shoulder strap on my shoulder. I fill it and it is very heavy, I think that has contributed to my aches and pain. I am also conciius of constanty crossing my arms. I believe that has a tendancy to stretch your muscles. At this point, I will try anything.
I missed art class last night and feel somewhat bad that I couldn't make it. Oh well, life goes on..lol
It is raining here this morning, I hope it stops. I would like to get my walk in. Sometime today.
Well, everyone has a great Tuesday, I know I am going to try.
Peace

Good morning Cindy and everyone.....
I am not happy today....my best friend has a friend that always highlights her daughters hair. My daughter always does mine but I haven't been able to get there for her to do it. With money tight I decided to let this gal highlight my hair. She did way too much....there is no highlights I am a bleached blond!!! I am so mad at myself......I never should have let her do it. Now I have to figure out what to do with it. I won't go anywhere like this!!!!!!! It will end up costing me a ton of money now....grrrrr. Lesson learned!!!
I have a doctor appointment at 9 to get the results of my CAT Scan and decide about surgery. I will be wearing a CAP!!!!!
Wishing you all a wonderful day. Prayers to all in need.
Love and hugs to all......connie d

Connie, go to Sally's and get yourself a highlighting cap. They come with a needle in the box. On the cap are little "X" ( x marks the spot), and pull some hair through every other X. Get some color, probably a level 8, the person at the store will help you with this. You'll also need some developer, 20 volume. After pulling it through the cap, apply the color and allow to process for 25-30 minutes.
Get into the shower and rinse off the color without removing the cap. Lather it up with shampoo, then gently pull the cap off. The shampoo will lubricate the hair and make it easier to remove the cap. Then, shampoo twice, following with conditioner.
Hope this helps. It will sure be cheaper for you than going to a salon.
