Twisters and storms and rain, oh my!

We got home today around 2:00.  It was a great weekend with family.  We got Mom & Dad's house cleaned and all the outdoor work was completed too.  Their place looks great both inside and out.

They are in Illinois - south central.  About 50 miles from St. Louis.  The St. Louis area got hammered Friday night with tornados.  There was a Cardinals game going on and we watched the news (all of their TV stations are out of St. Louis)  We were under a tornado watch.    I was nervous, because we were staying at my aunt's house and we couldn't go in her basement due to water standing down there.  We did plan and prepare to go into the hallway if needed.  The storm came through where we were, but no tornadoes thank goodness. Then another round came through last night.  I was glad to be headed home this morning.

We got home this afternoon only to find 1/2 of our tree down in the back yard.  It hit our gas grill and knocked it over.  Missed the patio table and chairs. Our neighbor said the winds were strong, but straight winds, not tornadic.  Well they must have been strong to take down 1/2 of our tree!  At least it didn't hit the house.   The neighbor will cut it up for firewood.  It was about 20 ft. high, so he'll get some good firewood out of it.

Susan - I hope things are ok with you.

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Thanks Connie.  Since there were no sirens blowing, I didn't get too scared - just a little nervous knowing we didn't have a basement to go to.  But all was well.

Must have been realy scary - both before and after getting home and seeing what is left of your tree.
Have had that happen as well due to ice storm and it felt aweful watching the rest of the tree have to come down...
Glad everyone is safe and that your neighbour enjoys the fires..

We've had some horrible ice storms in the past too.  It's so scary when you can hear the power lines coming down and see the sparks flying while everything is dark with no power.  But that said, I'll take ice over a tornado any day.

I don't think we'll lose the tree....well I hope not.  It's the only one in the back yard that shades the patio.,
