Good Morning Nancy and Friends,

Not quite 7am here on the west coast and a bit cool and breezy. I bought a lot of petunias and impatiens yesterday. Hope it's warm enough to plant them today. Need to get them started well before we take off May 7th for about 10 days.

Mike and I close friend *****cently retired are doing the Inside Passage Cruise to Alaska from Seattle. I'll spend the week visiting in the area and helping daughter Erin out.

My little part time substitute aiding in the schools job is turning into about 4 days a week. But school will be out June 12th so I'll have all summer. I'm padding my travel fund and trying to save towards getting my inner thighs carved on next summer. I start drawing SS in March of next year so I'm thinking that would be a good time to get it done if I'm brave enough to do so! All of my pant are several inches too big around in the waist and stomach area in order to fit around my thighs.

Nothing much else going on. I'm enjoying the longer days and the occassional nice weather. Still not consistently good weather but it will get there. Once it hits we have several months of mostly sunshine and increasingly warm weather. Our July and August here in eastern Washington are usually day after day after day of 100+ temps. But it's a very dry heat and we are strong believers in air conditioning. I get out to exercise or work in the yard early. When  it gets really hot it's kind of like really cold. Do what you have to do and then get out of it!

Sending you all good thoughts today.

Hi Nancy and my OFF family:

Gee, Nancy, you are so busy, you make me tired just reading your posts! I'm glad you are enjoying your life so much. Have you ever checked out the swimsuits at Lands' End? Their tugless tugs have actual cups and are made for cup sizes (B-C-D-DD). And they're having a 30 percent off sale on swimsuits now.

As I told everyone yesterday, we got into Gatlinburg, Tenn., about 6 p.m. last night after sitting in a big traffic jam in Pigeon Forge.

When I was checking my e-mails last night, I had one from an editor in Monroe, La. The woman had worked for the Grand Rapids' sister paper in Saginaw, took the buyout and got the job in Monroe a couple weeks ago. This job is for a regional copy desk, lots of younger editors, I would be considered a senior editor if I was hired. I told her I was on vacation and didn't have everything I needed to send her (references, clips), so I would send them when I got back. I'm just amazed I'm getting any nibbles at all from my job inquiries. Now I've gotten three, two very interested in me. And this one was offering my asking price. It gives me back my confidence in my self.

My brother is having issues with his apartment. The house was sold, the new landlord is pressuring him to make a decision on signing a lease and has told the other tenant one thing and Gary another. The new owner is playing good cop, bad cop with Gary and the other tenant. He's telling them a bunch of lies. Gary doesn't want to sign a lease with this guy because he doesn't trust him, so he's probably moving in with Mom, whether she likes it or not.

Anyway, we are not doing much today. Maybe just drive around the Arts and Crafts loop road. Lots of neat stuff there. We want to stay away from downtown Gatlinburg because it's a zoo. And especially stay away from Pigeon Forge.

Have a good day. We leave tomorrow for Chicago and the end of the trip. It's been a blast.

Good morning Nancy and OFF,

I'm having a difficult time getting started with work this morning.  I need to just get to it since I only have about two hours or so and can be finished.

I made the best Mexican Chicken dish yesterday.  For those interested, here's what I did.

Boneless chicken breast 4-5 (I used frozen) lined in the bottom of crock pot.
1 can of black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 can of yellow corn (drained)
1 jar of salsa (I only had 1/2 jar, so I also added Mexican flavored stewed tomatoes)
1 block of cream cheese (added near the end)

Cook on high for 1 hour, then cut back to low and cooked all day.  I added the cream cheese and then kept on warm for a few hours.  It was delicious!

Have a great day everyone!

Debbie

Hi all.

I got up, went for a walk came home and noticed 1/2 of my right hand is swollen.  My thumb looks like a small chicken leg!!  Not sure what is causing this.........maybe I slept funny, maybe because I had the compression garment off for 2 days???  who knows...hopefully it goes down soon.

My furbaby needs a bath......I may have to do it this afternoon.  On Tuesday I may walk him up to get his nails cut....it's a good 2 mile walk back and forth...good for both of us.

Tomorrow morning bright and early I'm going to an eye doctor for an annual exam which I have not done in over 2 years......then will take the prescription to get new glasses OR I might try contacts again.....didn't work last time for me because of my astigmatism.

Well gotta go and log onto Skype for my weekly chat with family overseas.
Have a great day!

Hey, Nancy,

Good to see you and our other OFF'r Sisters and Bro....

Some old, same old here.  Work.

However, I am over my pity party and Mad-Hatters Ball.  It was a rousing success....:)  I've taken care of the tax issue for my homestead and over-65 exemption.  I go to SS tomorrow with my NEW certified marriage license that I had to get in DOWNTOWN Dallas so I can apply for my widow's benefits. (I'm just sure as rain that I'll meet some really nice dude and can't draw them anymore...wouldn't that just be poetic justice?), AND... I found a Sleep Number bed on Craig's List that had never been used. Was still in the wrapping.  Dad bought it for son and he didn't want it... they were asking $450 (new $1,500).  I paid $600... why, you ask? Well,  I couldn't find a way to get it about 40 miles to here... and it would have been an 80 mi rt for me and then I had to disassemble what was on my bed and get it out... and put the SN together.. so... I offered to pay them $100 more.. but when they got here...they were working soooo hard... and did everything I asked and nicely... and they were trying to move themselves into their new apartment today, that I paid the extra... and I'm good to go now... I would have had to rent a truck, get someone to help me unload it and take everything apart...so for me...it was a good deal... now to go to son's house.. check the battery on girlfriend's car.. (they are coming back from California today and she'll have a car that will start)...I tried it this morning and it was 'dead as a doornail'.

Oh, and I DirectTV put in yesterday because it was cheaper than what I had.. but 3 mo of free movies... EVIL.... I stayed up until 4 a..m. this morning watching movies... last one was 7 lbs with Will Smith... Oh my.... Can't figure out how to make the ones in the bedroom and office work yet since they aren't HD.

Work is just work..but I'll be glad to get there in the morning.  Push has come to shove.  I have to give them my answer on whether I will do work from home and save about $4k a year... or continue to drive 68 mi rt plus tolls and gas.. and 2 hours a day on the road... I'm taking the stay at the office... it's only money and I get my energy from being there.... I'm not ready to be home.  Work has been my saving grace for a lot of years... I'm not ready to take it to the house.  And besides, I can still see people and add to my shoe collection.

Hugs to all that need'em...

Janet

Hmmm, Must be more of a story here. I've slept on a sleep number bed and I sure don't remember any "memorable ride!"
