The Yo-Yo Dieting mentality! Connect and free yourself
OH yeah...this is a good read and I'm freeing myself of yo-yo dieting and practice mindful eating!~ May you connect and really make a lifestyle change. Yes, finally this is helping me. I have now lost 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks, exercising and practicing mindful eating...getting rid of the "All or Nothing gal". Hugs to all- Debbie
You have heard me talk about the yo-yo mentality before -- the whole idea of a very cut and dried, black and white, good or all bad mentality. When you are dieting you are either "on" the diet or "off" the diet -- and off means you're planning to start again later.
There are a number of problems with that idea but one I was reminded of the other day was that once you hit your goal weight, you get to be DONE with dieting!! HURRAY!!
The problem with that is, although you might be careful for a little while about what you are eating (so you can maintain your new fab weight), if you haven't changed your normal, everyday relationship with food -- you will be right back to your pre-diet weight (or at least creeping that direction) because your weight is a reflection of your behaviors.
There really is a need to change your relationship with the food you eat. If you want to lose weight, you have some options: move more, eat less, or a combination of both. But the important part, is to make changes that you can live with -- because whatever it takes to get the weight off -- it is going to take that much to keep it off (which is what you want, right?)
So if you are losing weight on Jenny Craig --great for you!! But unless you are going to live on that food forever -- you need to learn to eat more like that when you are "off" the program.
And if you are learning to be more mindful -- and eating to a lesser fullness level more often than not -- then you are making changes that will get you where you want to go and keep you there! No more yo-yo, on again, off again dieting! Free yourself from that! You are smart enough to figure out how to make this work for you.

This is exactly why during the time I losing weight I never said I was "on a diet"......being "on" something is temporary......for me in the past I did exactly what you said....I went on a diet lost a ton of weight hit goal and that was it.....I was done.
This time I made a lifestyle change....It's a rest of my life commitment......This IS the way I eat, the way I make food decisions...it's not temporary. And if I had to say what is my goal...I'd say to maintain my current weight and lifestyle for the rest of my life.

Yep, that is what we should all do, that's the key right there.
I lost 100 pounds 3 times in my life then 80, then it just got to be less and less. I was either on a diet or off.
No more. Yepper...lifestyle change and exercise for me...for the rest of my life.
How are you doing with your walking now?
Is the swelling getting better now for you when your'e walking?

I thought I was the only one who lost 100+ lbs twice before only to re-gain it and then some.
The only good thing I can say about haven done that is I can tell the difference between when I "dieted" before and then re-gained it and this time when I totally changed my relationship with food. No more Yo-Yo'ing for me.....unless I can do it and count it as exercise.
The swelling is touchy.......I definitely swell more after walking...even after only 20-30 mins...but as long as I keep the compression hose on it is keeping it to a minimal and under control. I'm just a little tired of wearing compression hose AND a compression garment 24 hrs a day. I just order compression pantyhose so I can hopefully take the full garment off AND I'm also thinking I may just wear the hose during the day and at night when I'm much less active just wear he garment. It's getting to warm to have all these layers on...
Anyhow............ have a great night!!
