Rowing, sailing, cooking and eating. What's on your plate?
Morning Crew mates!!
We had a busy day yesterday and my food log shows it. I ran like mad most of the day, house work, grocery shopping and yard work. By the time dinner got here, neither one of us felt like eating much. I did get more than my required liquids in, plus some good exercise. Hope your weekend was a good one, as well.

I know lots of us use our crock pots often. I found these tips for converting regular recipes for use in crock pots. Thought is was good.
Adapting Your Recipes for a Slow Cooker
Does coming home to the wonderful aromaa of a flavorful, savory dinner ready in the kitchen sound like heaven?
A great solution is slow-cooking that can be achieved in your handy crock-pot.
If you love to use your crock-pot, but really do not have any favorite recipes, here's how you can adapt your old conventional recipes to the slow-cooking process (cooking that requires moist heat).
Reduce liquids by half. One cup of liquid is usually enough.
Cube meat to ensure complete cooking.
Vegetables cook more slowly than meat in a crock-pot, so place them in the bottom and around the sides of your cooker. Then add the meat and the liquid.
Dry beans should be cooked for 10 minutes before adding them to the slow cooker.
Cook pasta and rice before adding to cooker. And add them at the end of cooking just to warm.
The flavor of leaf or whole herbs will intensify, so add half the amount. Add ground herbs and spices during the last hour.
Add dairy products, including milk and sour cream, during the last hour of cooking.
Most uncooked meat and vegetable combinations will require cooking at least 8 hours on low.
If a conventional recipe says:
- Cook for 15 to 30 minutes: slow-cook on Low for 4 to 6 hours or on High for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Cook for 35 to 40 minutes: slow-cook on Low for 6 to 10 hours or on High for 3 to 4 hours.
- Cook for 50 minutes to 3 hours: slow-cook on Low for 8 to 18 hours or on High for 4 to 6 hours.

Thanks for the tips on the crockpot. I love mine. In fact, I am using it today! Have hot homeade German sausage in it and we like things hot and spicey. Cooking it with V-8 hot juice. Husband not going to be home for dinner, he hates hot stuff. Made it for me and the kids.
Yesterday-
Coffee
B- Protein drink
L- Chili
S- Rice cake
D- small wheat roll up with ham and cheese and lettuce and a little low fat Ranch
S- Atkins food bar.
Might have been a little light on the protein and water yesterday. My back hurt and took a vicodin and it made my stomach in such pain, right at my breast bone. I thought I was dying. Don't know what triggered that.
I am better today..
Peace
I am on my way. What a ride it has been.

BTW, your pouch isn't too far below your breast bone. I'd bet the vicodan made it unhappy.

I don't know what sausage would be comparable to this one. We get it at the Market. I know you can buy hungarian sausage at Meat shops. JUst not sure about the German sausage. I just put it in the crockpot and cover it with two small cans of the V8- hot juice. Cook on low for about 6 -8 hours. Depending on how much sausage you put in there.
Hope this is helpful.
I have to have sausage once in awhile..:)

Back to work after a three-week medical leave. The incision has healed but my voice is still raspy. Not good for teaching. Hoping a whistle and some stern looks will help me carry the day. The kids have been great, happy to have me back, but the honeymoon won't last, so I better get my voice back pronto, or get a wireless microphone. Don't want to spend the moolah.
Today's plan:
B - Oatmeal with wheat germ, milk, 1/3 apple, 1 T chopped walnuts
S - Iced tea
L - Wendy's chile , cheese stick
S - Muscle milk light
D - Ground beef quesadilla, greens, SF popsicle.
S - Yogurt
Thanks for the cooking tips Susan.
Happy rowing everyone.
