OT- Oh Hell no!
So, if any of you didn't see what happened to me yesterday, let me fill you in. In the middle of the day I get a call from my SIL saying she had gotten an e-mail from me saying I had been mugged in London and needed $$$. Of course she knew I hadn't gone anywhere, and knew right away that someone had hacked into my e-mail.
First thing I did was call my bank, they assured me that my account was safe. I was on Yahoo customer service for over an hour trying to recreate my contacts list, which they were able to do, but now I'm not receiving any e-mails at all! I've changed my password twice, done all the steps to reopen my account and NOTHING. Crap. I've had this e-mail address for 15 years, it's linked to my life, clients, business contacts, old friends, you all know. So, I'm out of contact with all of them.
I just checked my bank account and sure enough, I bought a round of drinks at a Starbucks in Marina Del Rey California yesterday....47.59 worth of stuff! Oh to be so fortunate to be sitting at a table drinking a latte in that lovely town. Not me, some SOB who's gotten my "stuff". I'll be calling the Starbucks (Gary says they have a video of the inside of the store that's kept for a few days), the Marina del Rey police and the bank.
This is how I'll be spending my day. I was supposed to go see my nutritionist today, an appointment I had really been looking forward to. I called her to reschedule. Crap.
If you respond to this, I won't be seeing it as I'm not getting e-mails at all, not even spam. So I'll check back later. Double crap

OH NO!!!!!!
How the heck do they do this sort of stuff??
Do you log on thru a secure modem at home? Do you have anything like McAfee or Norton running to protect your PC? I can walk you thru how to set these up if you want.
I feel so bad for you....not only because it STINKS they did this but because you had to reschedule your Nut appointment too.
Thinking of you!!!!

I want to know who thinks this stuff up, anyway??
Yes, we have a password protected firewall and McAfee.
Seems things might not be quite so bad. I talked at length with both the bank manager and the fraud division @ Starbuck's. Right now the transaction is "pending", and my just go away when they systems update overnight. It 's just such a coincidence that it would happen the same day as the e-mail stuff happened. So, until tomorrow, we just wait and see. The bank issued me a new debit card, so all is well there.
Gotta run. On the way to the ball game!

So now I'm wondering how vulnerable everyone on your contact list is..... because last night I got a Yahoo IM from Aime, I thought... and it wasn't... directing me to website...I was asking 'her' questions and she was giving me answers.. I went to the website but then it asked me for my cell phone number... I clicked out..
Hmmmm.
Sorry this happened to you.

Susan,
Something similar happened to me several years back, but luckily it only cost me time and no money. . . I have been told that is best to log out of all programs you are not working on when away from the computer, as hackers, some just for the sheer pleasure of it and no monetary gains, just want to see what they can accomplish. . . In other words, not on the computer, LOG OFF.
Hugs, Laureen
