WLS Surgery after 60
I had RNY at age 68 1/2 in August 2007. I did really well and lost 102 lbs the first year. Since then I have regained 12 lbs. and finding it hard to get it back off....probably my own fault for not being faithful to the rules. I am no longer diabetic (was on 4 pills prior to WLS) and blood pressure is normal (off 1 pill for that). I have lots of energy and feel great.....I would do it again in a heartbeat.
However......I did not lose all the weight I wanted to -- still over 200 and would like to lose 60 more lbs.....the surgeon said it was probably because of my age that I didn't lose more. I know the tool still works, but you have to be compliant and exercise, which I have been unable to do for the past three months because of foot surgery. I am planning to join TOPS just to have to weigh in every week and hopefully that will help me do better.
Best wishes for your surgery -- I came thru the surgery w/o much pain and back to my part time job in two weeks.
I'd be glad to be your friend thru this journey....

I am 69 and had the gastric sleeve on 11 January 2010. I have lost 50 pounds and plan to star****er aerobic classes soon.
I am off of blood pressure and cholesterol meds since right after surgery.
I wish I had done it sooner and have no regrets.
The surgery was routine and not a lot of discomfort.

Had my surgery at 62 and am almost 65,
Surgery went very well, had no post surgery discomfort or issues with textbook recovery. Found weght loss was very slow, although in first 3 months lost about 12 lbs a month, then lost more slowly until it stopped about 10-12 months later, had no stalls along the way.
Think my age and abused metabolism ( yo-yo dieting over the years since a teenager) has something to do with slow weight loss,.I have another 45 lbs to go at over 2 years out from surgery, but my body seems comfortable at this weight no matter what I eat or don't eat, how much exercise I do or don't. Have been at least 25 lbs less than this weight on severe restrictive diets before WLS but never managed to keep the weight off; it has stayed off this time with about 12 lbs regain in the last 8 months or so. I am still technically "obese" with a BMI of 33, but that's a far cry from the 47 BMI I was before WLS, and although I would be delirious if I ever got to goal, I am ok wit this as my health is superb now : only meds I am on is Synthroid ...This summer will try to drop maybe 10-15 lbs with salads and grilled chicken and steak and fruit, instead of the comfort food casseroles with cheese I seem to favour in our cold winters. I am still over 200 lbs and would love to break that barrier!I
