Dehydration How to tell
Someone "Please!" let me know how to tell if I am getting dehydrated.
I didn't feel good after eating a egg this morning and about an hour later I felt faint and took my blood pressure. It was up and I also felt sick to my stomach.
Called the Dr's office and they think my food got stuck. How do I tell if I am dehydrated and need water?

Hi, You can tell if you are dehydrated if your urine is dark. Your skin gets dry and loses it's elasticity. Pull up the skin on the back of your hand. If it takes a long time to bounce back you are dehydrated. Start drinking some fluids or eat some sugar free popsicles. Mona

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!
Thanks for your answer. I knew that there was a way to tell but was not sure.
Feeling a lot better than this morning.
Hated that feeling and my blood pressure returned to normal. I sure will make sure that I take longer to eat from now on.

You know if your dehydrated, just ask yourself how much you have been drinking.
Fresh post ops should always have a glass of water next to them.
I'm almost 3 years out and I always have water with me. I also have extra water bottles in my car.
Right now I have a coffee cup filled with water next to me at work.
We need at least 64oz. of water every day. I drink more like 100oz. if not more.
Not feeling good after eating an egg happens to most of us. Your heart was probably "racing" because you were scared/anxious. Drinking is something we all have to continue to do and it comes easy for some and others really have to work at it.
Pulling skin up on your hand doesn't tell the truth for WLS patients. As we lose weight we have extra skin on top of our hands and genetics also come into play.
You will know if your dehydrated because you aren't getting all your fluids in. Measure out 64oz. of water in a pitcher and just keep pouring out of that pitcher until it's gone. If you can drink more do so.
Feeling faint and not good is a sign of dehydration for us. Getting dizzy and sight going blurry is another sign. Not feeling good after eating an egg is a sign of "grouchy pouchy".
Keep drinking and don't be afraid to try eggs again. They are good for us.

Another sign of dehydration is headaches. I would bet, since you're a newbie, you probably ate too fast. It could also be that your pouch doesn't like the eggs yet. I was able to eat scrambled eggs early out, but they don't sit well with my pouch now. Go figure. I've got to be different. I can eat fried eggs and poached and hard boiled, just not scrambled.

Jani, Thanks my pouch doesn't like fish or mac and cheese. I know I am new out but would like to eat something that agrees with my grouchy old pouch. I am going to try 3 minutes between bites and see if that does any better. i sure hope so.

I just made a trip to the ER on Sat. for dehydration. IV fluids and I felt better. I wasn't tracking my fluid intake and really thought I was drinking enough. Well, I paid for it. I was extremely weak and shaky. My mind seemed "foggy". I had the loose skin. The underside of my forearms was very wrinkled. Since I'm early out, I don't have sagging skin yet, so that was the first signal to me that my problem was dehydration. I can't express how important it is that you drink the 64 oz daily. I sure learned my lesson!
The egg sounds like it stuck or just plain didn't agree with you. I don't have trouble with eggs, but I can't do refried beans or baked fish. Those both came back up after having the foaming sputum first.

Wanda, Everything returned to normal after lunch which I didn't eat. the Dr's office put me on liquids for 24 hrs and today I am on soft foods again. I am going to drink my 64oz and eat slower I sure hope it helps.
Thanks, Clara
