Maui Karen - Tsunami

Are you ok????  I hear Chili had an earthquake and a Tsunami might be coming toward Hawaii.

jan earthquake was in chili NOT hawaii....hawaii does have a tsunami watch tho....hope they aren't affected....watch is also out for california and alaska....

Thanks Judy, I just caught the end of the news, saw the quake and then they had a pic of the hawaiian islands and then they talked about the tsunami.  That's a bit of a relief.  Fixed my post.

I just now heard on the news that a tsunami is supposed to hit the Hawaiian Islands around 4 PM. They said it may be the worst one since one they had in the 60's.

I heard about the earthquake this morning and the first thing I thought of was what happened in 2004.  There was that earthquake in southeast Asia and then the devastating tsunami ...

It's my understanding that Hawaii and the other South Pacific islands are under a tsunanmi warning.  Praying for all those people...

From what I've learned over the years, an advisory is something like -- "it could happen"
Watch -- stronger possibility that it will happen
Warning--take cover, it's coming

Jan....you are right.....I too am worried about Maui Karen. Keeping her and all those effected by this storm in my prayers today.

Aloha OFF family........It is very scary here right now. I will have to shut down my computer soon, but wanted you to know what they are saying. They are turning off the water soon on Maui, so I've filled every bottle I can find. I live right on the ocean, but on the south side and the tsunami is supposed to hit the north side and wrap around the island. So....I live on the third floor and I MIGHT stay put, but move my car out of the parking lot so it doesn't wash away. My neighbors and I are all trying to decide whether to get to high ground or stay here. I went and got gasoline at around 5:00 a.m. and have put some food/water in the car and can get out of here quickly EXCEPT the traffic I hear is going to be bumper to bumper.

Ironically, right now when I look out at the ocean it is like glass....smooth and slight breezes....absolutely gorgeous day. I have a feeling in a couple of hours all that will change. I've taken pictures so I can have "before" pictures. I have so many friends who live on the north side of the island and I'm worried very much about them.

We expect the power to go out so I'm stocked with candles in case I stay.

Thank you all so much for your concern. It's 9:00 a.m. here right now, and the wave is supposed to hit Maui at 11:26 a.m.

I'm shutting down now, but will be back when it is all over to let you know how we fared.
