Unusual? Phenomenon?
I've been on liquids for 11 days. I stopped taking Celebrex last Monday per doctor's instructions since surgery is Tuesday. My knees haven't hurt ONCE since I've been on liquids and not even since I stopped the Celebrex! Can this be? Am I dreaming that I can ditch the Celebrex after WLS?
My DH and I went car shopping today and I was on my feet a lot. No pain. None. Nil. I'm in disbelief.
Has anyone else experienced this? I've lost 13 pounds in this time, but in the past when I've lost up to 40 lb, I didn't have pain relief.

That is awesome, I hope tha it is the same for me. I take Mobic and even then my knees and hips hurt. My doc told me to stop taking Mobic a week before. Tylenol doesn't work at all for me. I know we have to stop anything with a blood thinner. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Wanda, I'm so glad for you that you're not in pain! I don't know if being on liquids alone has something to do with your pain lessening. Maybe there was something in a food you were eating (and it would be hard to figure out *what* exactly until you begin to eat again) that aggravated the inflammation or problem that caused the pain?
I don't know if you'll be able to lose the Celebrex entirely after your WLS. You might. I can tell you that I've lost a lot of the pain I had in my ankles and knees since I had WLS. I still have fibro pain though. :P I still have pain from bulging disks. BUT the pain has decreased considerably and I'm not taking pain meds at nearly the dosage I used to.

I'm glad you have some pain relief Irish. My knee pain and inability to get around as well as I would like is one of the main reasons I am doing this. It's not really about looking better, although that will be the icing on the cake (oh...cake.....) It's about my quality of life improving so that I can truly enjoy life.
I remember reading a book one time about how foods can cause arthritis and they suggested an elimination diet to see.

Hi Wanda:
Get ready for some drastic changes in your need for meds. I ditched the Janumet for diabetes 5 DAYS after the surgery, quit the Crestor at the same time even though I wasn't supposed to. At 2 months post op A1C was at 6.7 (anything less than 7 is good for diabetics) and the cholesterol levels as well as triglyceride had come down to within normal limits. The levels were incredibly low at 6 months post op.
Additionally, NO MORE SINUS HEADACHES! which had been the bane of my existence for 25 years. And last but definitely not least, for the first time in over the ten years since I developed Hashimoto's Disease, my thyroid is functioning perfectly -- NO NEED FOR THYROID HORMONES.
Many who have had RNY have experienced similar results with their former ailments, which leads me to believe that compulsive overeating is an illness that has many symptoms, and obesity is only one of those symptoms. The illness manifests itself in ways that defy logic.
May the WLS fairy
sprinkle its fairy dust on you this Tuesday.
