Life is a journey...mines "bumpy right now"
I need to detox...am I making the right decision?
I believe I am for me. Wish me luck on my 3 days of detoxing from sugar and carbs. Only 3 days I can do this!!
Enjoy reading below, I connect but dang...I hate winter. Springtime is coming and it's to the gym every night this week after work for me!! Hugs to all.
1.Decide you might not have picked the best driving path up front and keep going in your current direction because maybe there is a shortcut right around the next corner that is going to get you to where you want to go.
2. Freak out because you have just realized your heading in the wrong direction; assume you will never be able to get to your destination. Hop out of the car, pick it up and through it on your back, and start running to your destination blaming your car for taking you to some place you don't want to be.
3.Stop and ask for directions. Take a breather and start driving in a new direction at a safe speed to get you to your destination of choice.
To me choice number 1 very rarely is successful -- if you knew where you wanted to go and couldn't find the right roads, how are you going to recognize the magic shortcut -- if there even is one.
Choice #2 doesn't make sense because you aren't going to get very far carrying your car (ie drastic diets that make your body lose weight but not in a healthy, life building way).
But choice 3 seems sensible to me. Take stock of where you are, reassess where you want to be, get directions if you need some and proceed at a pace that will get you there safely. 0 comments Labels: weight loss mindsets
We all know the portions we are served at restaurants are way too big. We can extend that thought to realized that most of the plates (if you have moderately new dishware) are way bigger than the ones our grandma's served us on. But do you know how much bigger???
Click on over to the Portion Distortion Quiz and have a gander...
When we think about eating something, we think about eating a whole something. If I want a banana, I don't normally think about having a half of a large banana -- what I picture in my head is A (whole) BANANA.
If I want to have a bagel -- it is most likely I will eat a whole bagel -- if it is smaller, I will eat one (whole) -- if it is bigger, I will still eat one (whole).
As you can see from the Quiz -- size does matter and the difference between what was routinely served 20 years ago and the portion that we expect to see now is vastly different.
There are a couple ways to tackle this issue:
Eat a restaurants and buy food for home that are reasonable size portions -- even though it will probably cost you more for less.
Or...start thinking in smaller units. When you go to Subway, work on automatically ordering the 6 in. sub. Get proficient at order off of the children's menu when you eat fast food. Look for the smaller bagels or train yourself you to think of a bagel as a half of a bagel -- that way if you have 2 halves, you think you are having two of something (it is easier to say "not right now" to the second of something than it is to say that to the first). Get creative!
Right now, the environment we live in is not helping us. You can change your environment and how you respond to it's cues.
Being aware of hunger and fullness levels while we eat is a wonderful thing -- but we need our environment to support our efforts, too.

Life is a journey
Sometimes, in life, you wake up one morning and realize that you are not where you would like to be. Like setting out on a trip without a detailed map, we take a wrong turn or two and end heading in a direction that isn't going to get us to our chosen destination. Once we've realized this, we have a couple options:1.Decide you might not have picked the best driving path up front and keep going in your current direction because maybe there is a shortcut right around the next corner that is going to get you to where you want to go.
2. Freak out because you have just realized your heading in the wrong direction; assume you will never be able to get to your destination. Thanks, I needed that....and I need to do the detox too. Great post!
Good-luck with yours.

I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

Wow Debbie. Amazing how many people are in the same boat right now. I find myself eating more breads and carbs now, not the good carbs like fruit and veggies, but the breads, crackers etc. I'm not doing too badly with the sugars, but the carbs are killing me. Your detox is just getting the water in and removing all sugars and carbs?
Hi Jani,
My detox right now in what I'm doing is drinking a protein shake for breakfast and lunch along with 3 fresh fruits a day. I was going to drink a shake for dinner but I went to the gym and worked out hard.
When I got home, hubby had made pork chops so I ate half of one, 2 T. mashed potatoes and carrots. I needed to fuel my body so I term yesterday a success with no bread or crackers.
When 24 came on...I was hungry so I drank Muscle Milk Light.
Now that was a success!!!
Today after work I plan on going to the gym again, work out for an hour running in the pool and doing "ladders" in the pool along with working out with 5 pds. weights. I push myself hard and I sure have definition working out with weights, really no back fat at all. If I'm feeling energized I just may go to the 5:45pm spin class to really do a work out. I'm waiting to hear from Deb to see if she can work out with me.
I'm doing good not reaching for candy. At your stage your in I too didn't crave sweet things. My sweet tooth is back and now I can eat candy darn it....and cookies...I love coooooookies! LOL
I will stay strong and make the right food choices for me. Today I feel energized and this is day 2 of drinking shakes for breakfast and lunch. Huuummmmm...I am eating my words here, I promised myself I would only get protein from food when I got to regular foods. Almost 3 years out and I'm drinking the shakes but they taste better to me now. Go figure. Maybe because my sweet tooth emerged again??
I've come to far to let myself ever go again. I'm a strong woman and will not let the 10 pounds go to 20 pounds. Is this normal "bounce-back"?? Probably but I'm staying on top of this Jani!!
It really is so easy to reach for those crackers and bread. Good luck with making a plan for you to not reach for the crackers.
My boss's mom died yesterday afternoon. I really wanted comfort food but I didn't do it. I know today I will also want to reach for comfort food. My relationship with my boss is more like best friends. We support each other. I sat with her mom in ICU so she could go home and rest. Now her mom is at peace.

You really are a strong lady, Debbie. And you love working out! I only wish I had that drive. I'm a couch potato. I drank SF hot cocoa with chocolate protein powder this morning. I'm feeling like I really want some cereal or something crunchy. I made some dehydrated apples, so maybe I'll have some of those of some baby carrots.
I'm going to go out and shovel, or try to get the snowblower started. Hubby went downstate to list our rental house for sale, so I'm here alone. Of course it had to snow when he's gone. Hope I can get the blower started. Earlier this morning I shoveled maybe 1/8 of the driveway and quit. It's light, but I just didn't feel like doing anymore.
Good luck to you today with your detox, and good luck to me with day 1.
Jan
PS. I love that you sit with people so they don't die alone. You're a true angel.
