Feeling weak and shaky - any ideas?

Every morning I feel weak and very shaky.  As soon as I got up I fixed a protein shake.  I've been drinking it for a half hour and still feel shaky just sitting here.

I'm getting in enough protein every day - 80 - 100g  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I'm sure it's because it has been so many hours since I've had anything of "substance" such as a protein shake.

Would it help if I wait to drink my last protein shake of the day right before I go to bed?  I sure don't like this feeling.  It only seems to be first thing in the morning.

The "up" side is that in 5 days on liquids, I've lost 9 lbs!

Thanks for your help.

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Maybe you have low blood sugar in the morning?  Can you check that?

Drinking your protein drink is good.  Not eating attributes to your body changin.  My doctor told me to drink ensure in the morning for awhile.  Maybe that would help

Peace

Thanks Mary.  I have had trouble with hypoglycemia in the past when I was on low carb diets.  I'm going to try OJ.  I don't have diabetes so don't have a way to check my BS.  When I go back to work on Tues I'll have one of the nurses check my BS to see what it is.  I didn't even think about that until this morning when someone else suggested it.  I should have known, though since I've had this problem in the past.

I'm glad Mary mentioned low blood sugar because that's the very first thing I thought of.  Do you have any meters or testing strips left over from when you had hypoglycemia?  Maybe you never needed to use them ... anyway, it definitely needs to be checked because your diet will need to be adjusted to account for your sugar levels.  Hang in there!  And do go with the OJ when you feel lightheaded or weak.  It won't hurt you and could only help.  :)

Hi Irish.  I work with a bunch of nurses who have glucometers, so if I feel this way when I go to work tomorrow, I'll have them check my blood sugar.  If it's low, I'll call the surgeon's office to get some advice.  It was actually better this morning, but still a tiny bit shaky.  I drank some protein before bed last night.  Yesterday morning was awful!  It took 3 hours for me to start feeling normal again.

Can relate.  I'm on day 14 of full liquids.  It definitely sounds like low blood sugar.  I was crashing-sweating, anxoius, and shaky- at 4:30 in the morning every morning with a blood sugar in the 60's on the liquids for 4 days until they adjusted some of my meds.
