Back from surgery!
Hello my new friends. I'm back home at last from having my innards rearranged and I'm plagued by mixed feelings. I'm sure glad that the waiting is finally over and I can now finally try to squeeze into the loser's bench but it has been a tough week... tougher than I like. The surgery itself was a ***** with me wide awake while the assistrant surgeon was making my arms painfully black and blue trying to find an appropriate vein to stick the anesthesia tubes in... and failing! They finally had to open a vein at my neck and go on from there. I was on IV's the entire time in the hospital with plenty of pain and severe hunger which continues on to this day. My doc placed me on a clear liquid diet for the next couple of weeks and doesn't want me to take proteins. Although my stomach is now tiny - less than 100 gr. worth - it never seems to get full.
On the bright side, I have already lost 5 kilos (10 lbs) all post-op, which is more than I lost in 6 months of strenuous dieting last year.
That's my news for now. I'll keep you posted on how things go from now on.

Hi Amalia,
Sorry about the poking around with the needles. That sometimes happens to me too. They hurt!
Good luck and why were you awake during surgery? Oh boy, I don't think I would like that.
Well..... Take care of yourself.
I want to go to Greece...

Hi Mary. I've been poked around with needles since I was 10 - apparently my veins are too deep and hard to find. I wasn't awake throughout the entire operation, only until they found the vein to stick the anesthesia in. Why? I have no idea. Too cheap to give me a pre-op sedative maybe? I asked for one from the assistant surgeon doing the poking and he threatened not to go through with the operation!
I was told I wouldn't be hungry after the surgery too, Mary, but I was in the hospital for 6 days and was not allowed to even drink water until the very last day when they told me I could now sip a little very slowly. Now the torture continues as I must stay on a clear liquids diet and not even protein drinks allowed for 2 more weeks at least. Liquids go right through the system and give no sense of satiety, ergo, I feel starved!
I wouldn't worry about your surgery. I am told that in the US they give you a pre-op sedative shot so you feel nothing. I had surgery like that once in a private hospital. In comparison to my other surgeries, that one was pure bliss!

Welcome aboard the losers bench! Don't worry. In no time the surgery will be just a memory and you will be so busy getting on with your new life you'll be wondering why you didn't do it sooner. You have a lot of really great experiences ahead of you as you start your journey to a healthier life. Good luck.
