Intuitive Eating from the eating coach
Oh yes gang...feeling full? Throw out those last few bites!

Yesterday, I was talking to my daughter about the subject of today's blog. She suggested the ultimate test of being mindful while you are eating.
Can you leave the last 2 ravioli in the pot (to be thrown out later) or the last 2 Fruit Loops in the bowl because they no longer taste GREAT!
side note: I have no idea why she chose Fruit Loops for her example. She had just gotten done eating ravioli for lunch (and throwing out two) -- that part made sense. I can't tell you when the last time I bought Fruit Loops was!
Anyway, her point still holds. How often do you find yourself throwing out the last two bites of anything because you did not eat it?? Hopefully, more and more often!

The real test of Intuitive Eating

You make a good point-especially for us OFFers...we grew up in a culture that insisted we 'clean our plates because there are starving children in China, India, Africa, etc...' Unfortunately, that has been imprinted on us and , therefore, we have a very difficult time with 'throwing out' any leftover/uneaten food. I have no answers, but I'm confident that others on this forum may have the same experience or, even better, some answers/techniques to deal with this. Giving it to the dog is NOT acceptable, since out dogs also have obesity issues ...LOL!
Long ago I began to throw away food.
As I began the WLS process, the dietitian drummed into my head - measure everything.
After surgery I measured because it was hard to know the correct amounts after years (and many pounds) of eye-balling portions.
By really listening to my body I could tell when the Prissy Witchy Pouch was full. (She was born on Halloween, therfore the name
)
It doesn't matter how much goes in the trash, I do NOT want to feel uncomfortable. To me, it is not wasting food, it is keeping my belly happy.
Great topic - thank you
Kisses

Annette, you make me smile...love the name prissy witchy pouch. Great Halloween name.
My ex MIL name is Halloween, guess what day she was born on. Thank goodness she has a great sence of humor and went by Holly most of the time. Her family calls her Halloween all the time. She has twin brothers named Elmer and Delmer!

Here's the funny thing......I'd been doing this for years as an obese person. I still do it sometimes but I find now that I am so careful with my portion sizes that I do fini**** all most times.
I think I used to do it in some sort of subconscious way of saying "I'm not fat, I don't eat too much, see I can't even finish my meal"....LOL....I was fooling myself.
Anyhow I'm going to eat dinner in a few mins....will be interesting to see if I leave anything on the plate.

Hi,
thanks about the picture...
Actually I did end up leaving food on my plate. I left a biggish chunk of my steak but I ate all my veggies and bulgur wheat. By the time we sat down to eat I completely forgot about the subject it just happened to work out for me LOL!
I'm going to eat my oatmeal now and I can promise you I will be eating it all!!! YUMMY
Have a great day!!
