Hot Flashes from hell
I usually lurk on this board but I have to ask about this. I'm nearly 7 weeks out and the hot flashes and night sweats have gone from irritating to insane. I am sorely tempted to go see my PCP and get 'something' for them - i was planning on just riding them out pre-surgery. I am assuming this might have something to do with the surgery since everyone says estrogen is released when you lose weight. Does that sound right to you? If any of you were going through the change when you had the surgery did your symptoms get worse? Thanks.
ABSOLUTELY did my symptoms get worse! Before my RNY I was still having regular periods even though I was in my mid 50's. About 1 year after my RNY the periods became irregular and the hot flashes worse. I tried black cohash and other natural things but they didn't help. I finally gave in and went to see my PC doctor and asked for hormone replacements. They are wonderful and so worth it. I worked hard to get my life back by having 4 major surgeries in 18 months and at the end I was still suffering physically because of the hot flashes. Today medical science has made my life not only bearable but AWESOME!
Check with your doctor to make sure that you are not in a high risk category then go for it!
