Are you allowd to take NSAIDs ? Celebrex is a Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory...this being said, some surgeons, especially if you are relatively far out from surgery, and have toughned up your little pouchie, may allow some moderate use with an anti-acid or stomach protector such as Pantoloc....better check first with your surgeon before you take Celebrex.
Judy,
It is kind of risky for us. Double check with your surgeon.
This is what I found:

Gastrointestinal Risk
- NSAIDs, including Celebrex, cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events.

Judy, my ortho doc wanted me to get on Celebrex when I had the patellar tendonitis last year. I asked Dr. Foote about it first; he said I could try it but there was a risk of ulcers; that I should take it along with something like Prevacid or Nexium (and I was already on Nexium, so that wasn't an issue). I tried it for a month (it was expensive too ... not a cheap drug, something like $26 for a month for the copay) and I didn't notice any difference in my knee (this was my right knee, the knee replacement one). So I said that was long enough and didn't get it refilled. Ortho doc agreed.
I have a feeling that Dr. Foote will tell you the same thing.
