Away too long......computer died!

Aloha my OFF friends.....

Well...I have been away for awhile, mostly because my computer has died and been resurrected but is all new and I can't get a lot of things to work!

A week or so ago, I took my computer upcountry Maui to my Maui Mac Medic. When he diagnosed a corrupted hard drive, I was worried.....and in installing a new hard drive, the old one blew and I lost EVERYTHING!! No pictures of grands, no e-mail address book, no bookmarks, etc. etc. What a challenge! Then I had to call Roadrunner three times (talked to people in the Philippines!) to try and get my e-mail set back up. After the 2nd call, I gave up for a day, and then tried again and now I think I have e-mail back, but NO ADDRESSES! Sigh.

I have been trying to catch up on reading what's happening with everyone, and WOW......so much going on. I would love to talk to each of you individually, but for now will just say "I hope everything works out for each of you experiencing challenges"

Since I'm going to Calif. in January to see my kids, I won't be doing anything big for Christmas. I have already sent two boxes of gifts to them and will be having Christmas dinner with friends......prime rib...yum!

Our weather here has been chilly......I'm actually wearing long pants and a sweater. It's around 70 and I freeze at that temperature! I know, I know.......you are all going "poor Karen!" Ha! It does warm up during the middle of the day to around 80, and guests are being able to lay in the sun, and swim in the ocean. Those of us who live here and have acclimated to warm temps........bundle up!

George.....I received Mary's and your BEAUTIFUL card yesterday! Such patience your Mary has! How very creative and appreciated. Thank you both so much!

Now, back to trying to figure out this new computer!

Aloha and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all. I wish I could wiggle my nose and have you all magically appear here for the day.......and we'd have a chatter fest out on the beach!

Maui Karen

P.S. I would appreciate it if those of you who I have communicated with via e-mail would send me a note so I can put you back in my address book! Thanks.

Karen,
I know it's a lot of work, but the OFF directory has all our email addresses.....

I learned a long time ago to do my backups, my daughter has finally learned after losing all her pictures of my grand daughter, 2 times, once by someing stealing her laptop and once by bad hardrive on new laptop. They finaly gave in to me and are now Mac people. Mine is backing up now as I type. It is set to back up every sunday morning at 9  am.

Hopefully you can get some of the pictures back from family members or online picture sites that you store them in...

Nice to see you back...but sorry about your mac issues....

Aloha Darlene......Thanks for your reply. Annette sent me an older OFF directory, and I'm going to print that and add my OFF addresses....or maybe I can cut and paste....hummmmmm. It's a learning time.

I'm embarrassed to say that I did NOT know how to backup my computer until my Mac guy suggested I get an external backup. So, now everything will be saved and can be taken with me wherever I go. (small..like two decks of cards).

I HATED losing my pictures especially......but I am trying to get some of them back that my kids have.

It is a learning time, for sure.

Aloha nui loa,

Karen

Karen,
I use Ibackup for my mac and love it, it's also a free program.

Welcome home dear sister, you have been missed.
I do understand about feeling chilled at 70 . We lived in Puerto Rico  for 3 years, the long sleeves came out in our ( winter) time.
Enjoy your time in Cali with your little loves.

Aloha sweet friend......It is SO GOOD to see your beautiful face and that fabulous red hat again!! Very interesting that you lived in Puerto Rico for three years. I would love to hear that story someday.

I am looking forward to seeing my little ones (now ages 5,3 and 18mos). I will have them all to myself for four days while son and DIL go skiing. I hope I can have the energy to keep up with them! Ha. My brother thinks I'm crazy to agree to that because he AND my SIL get exhausted taking care of their little 2 years old together!! It's worth it to me to be able to make the bond stronger between my sweet little boys and their tutu.'

Sending you a big hug.

Aloha nui loa,

Karen

Glad to see you back Karen.  Just talked to my friends.  They just got back from a cruise, from California to 5 Hawaiian islands and back to Ca.  They got a great deal on the cruise and loved Maui.  They want us to go back there with them....some day.  In 2011 we're going on a cruise to Alaska again, so Hawaii will have to wait a few years.
I have a Dell laptop computer, and I don't know how to back it up either.  Do I have to buy hardware or something?  I have too many pictures on here and I definately don't want to chance losing them.  I guess I'll have to check with my son's computer dweeb friend and find out how.

Have a Blessed Christmas with those Grands.  I miss my little guy already, and I've only been home for a little over 24 hours! :)
