OT OUR MEN/WOMEN IN BLUE
I'm sitting here watching the broadcast of the Memorial Service for the 4 Lakewood WA police officers who were slain 9 days ago. A gunman shot 4 police officers as they sat in a coffee shop doing paperwork. They are saying it was an execution style shooting. One officer was able to wound the assailant but he had a driver help him get away. He was shot a few days later while trying to get away. This was the largest mass murder of WA officers in our history. So sad...
221 family members are being seated... 3 men 1 woman leave 9 children along with wives/husband and other family members.
Today I went to the Army Hospital and ran into a huge traffic jam. Three lanes of highway were backed up for at least 5 miles. I have never seen so many police vehicles at once. They used the tarmac at McChord AFB to hold all the police vehicles. It took 3 1/2 hrs for all the vehicles to travel 10 miles from the Lakewood to the Tacoma Dome. They estimated 2,000 police cars & other vehicles.
Police units from all over the USA and Canada are here. It is nice to see our friends from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as well as from MA, Ct NJ, NY.... The Tacoma Dome holds 20,000 people and it is full.... all police and family members. It is so overwhelming to see so many men/women together like this. What a wonderful group of people to protect us... as well as our military.
Well, I've given statistics but the emotional outpouring is tremendous. People lined the processional route with flags, flowers and tears..... Such a sad day.... I hope we can take a moment to reflect on the people who do protect us. We Americans are a very blessed country.
