You are the opposite of Mary in something here.  Mary is disappointed because we can't get either of our dogs to jump up on the bed.

Macon is her dog.  All hers.  Sunday Mary went into the living room and Macon was in Mary's chair.  Mary went over and sat on the couch.  Macon got down from the chair, went up on the couch and laid his head in her lap.

Hey George, I'm not opposite, believe me, but I want my new dog to know that he can't always sleep with me, because my new bed is so high up (I need a stool to get in it (lol)) he probably won't be able to get in it easily, or he will have issues when he gets older.  I had a friend of mine build a platform for Dillinger to be able to get up in the bed, it's just I don't want that monstrosity of a platform to be in my bedroom, one reason is it kind of takes what is a nice room and turns it into something else, the other reason is my bedroom while a good size is not big, so the platform took up the free space, though I was willing to accept it to make Dillinger feel comfortable in what he was used to having, which was 85% of my bed (lol). . .

It is great that Macon became fond of Mary as she was certainly devestated ove the loss of your other dog.  Animals sense and know who needs their love and loyalty.  I am truly looking forward to doggy love once more.

not sure if all y'all remember about our brody-when we got him melissa assured me he only takes up a teeny spot on the bed and we ended up getting the king sized bed because of him!!! i still miss him..roxie does her best (at 14# !!) to take up as much space as she can !!!!

it's interesting how we name our animals--my callie cat was a rescue-we had had her for almost a week and no one would name her so i did- she was a calico so she became callie...my first cat after i got my own apt (at 18) was named Ernie-since she was too young to know sex -she became Ernestine but always calle dher ernie--she was named after the most wonderful woman, Ernestine Artz, who worked for Family Services in Jackson, Michigan where i was born..miss artz would send a christmas card/letter every year to all of "her children and their families" and i have most of them--she has been gone since the early 1970's tho.she was quite instrumental in my adoption ! so ernestine was my cat's name..my ernie was my reason for going home many nites as a single gal..and she was with me 18.5 years(half my life at that time) ; when i had to put her to sleep....ironically same problem as my 15 year old callie...sorry-long winded....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Margo,

You are never long-winded and I love reading your posts, they are meaty with substance and insight and I believe I would qualify for long-winded as well (lol), but like to think that some of what I write interests the reader and if not, then they have the option of passing it over ;)

Hugs, Laureen

Sounds like things are going along for people for the holidays.  I may be the only one who doesn't do a whole lot.  We have no children, and our parents are all gone.  We may get together with my sister and possibly my brother and family that live near, but not sure yet.  Michael's sister is going to Hawaii with her family for the hoidays.  That's fine.  We like it low key anyway.

We took pictures of the dog last night, thinking of using for holiday cards.  I wrapped empty boxes and put dog treats in one to keep his attention and we used a pair of cloth antlers a friend gave us to make it even more festive!  It was a challenge to make our very alert herding dog pose for a picture!

Our friend visiting for the weekend left yesterday and while we hated to see him go home, it was a wonderful visit.  I'm back at work today and just busier than busy!

There's a lot to be said for low key, Mary!  We've scaled our plans back considerably, trying to simplify, simplify!

I understand what you are saying.  I know we are fortunate with our kids being so close to us.

But the holiday season was rough the December before Mary had her surgery.  She refused to have the house decorated for the holidays.  And we have always been big decorators.  That was a rough Christmas for me.  I still watch the Macy's Day Parade (and most New Yorkers I know do call it that) just to see Santa ride in and officially start the Christmas season.

I used to decorate to the hilt - and still have beautiful decorations.  Michael isn't as into it as I am, so I toned it down when we got together (13 years ago), but this year I'll do some.  I always do cards, as I love getting them.  And I've always done cookies, but will skip this year I think.  I love the spirit of the season most of all.

Hi George and my OFF family:

George,  your $1 coffeemaker sounds a lot like my father's $1 TV. When I was living in Illinois, my TV broke and it was too expensive to fix and I didn't have money for a new TV. My dad had won a TV in a raffle. I was over and moaning about the TV breaking and he said to me, "Give me a $1." I asked why and he just repeated, "Give me $1." So I did and he said, "You just bought yourself a TV. Now when your brother asked how you got that TV, you can say you bought it from me. You don't have to say how much you paid." See, my brother (Ed, the oldest one) was always saying that I got everything and he got nothing (not true, because he got the most expensive education and a car, but he never saw it that way ... my parents helped us out in different ways). So my dad didn't want to make waves. But that's how I got a $1 TV.

Anyway, it's snowing here. There's winter storm warnings already for today and a blizzard predicted for Thursday. Oh what fun! At least it seems light right now ... that, of course, could change by the time I'm going to work/coming home from work.

I went to bed really early last night ... I was really tired from the sedation from my EGD and napped on and off during the day/night, then finally went to bed about 9 p.m., watched the football game in bed, dozed off there, saw the final seconds and clicked off the TV. My body is in a lot of pain, mostly my lower back/right hip ... weather doesn't help at all. My body doesn't like winter. My throat is still a little ouchy from the EGD yesterday, too. Not as bad as yesterday, though. I did get one batch of cookies made yesterday and made a mess in the kitchen ... I am not a neat cook. Now I have to try to keep my paws off of them. They are like Mexican wedding cookies (butterballs) with these Nestles morsels in them ... they're special holiday swirls ... they're so good but so rich and sweet. I have to save them to give away.

Yeah, George, I'm looking forward to opening day too. That would mean the snow would hopefully be over, although you can never tell in the Midwest.

Well, not much else going on. Back to work tonight. See ya.

Would you box up some of that snow and send it to NJ, Eileen?  ;)  When will you hear the results of your test?
