FYI ........My BPS....[or vertigo...]
I woke up a week ago and when I went to get out of bed, I was so dizzy I nearly fell on the floor. It got worse all day and my husband insisted I go to the doctor and of course they ordered a CAT Scan, but after checking me all out she told me she thought I had Benign Positional Vertigo BPS
I knew as soon as she said it that was it....I had it many years ago to the extent I could not even fly in a plane and we had to DRIVE everywhere, then one time I was at my chiropractor and I told him about it and he fixed it.
So I am back at it with him. I think I must have slept on too many pillows or just had my head too far down to long. He said sometimes it happens when you work on a computer a lot.
He said also that the vertebraes int he neck get out of alighment and there is a nerve that goes to the inner ear and it becomes inflammed and cause the vertigo.
You feel like you are trying to walk on a rolling ship. It is harmless, but funny sometimes, like when I went to push the button on the elevator and ended up pushing the door. I think the lady that was standing there thought I might be drunk...I said" having a little vertigo problems"
Also at Mass on Sunday I was walking down a very wide hallway and an old woman was agisnst the wall waiting for someone I think, and I suddenly lurched...halfway across the hallway right into her....[I ended up hugging her lightly...and she look so surprised and said "Oh, My Goodness"....such a sweetie.
Fortunately I don't "lurch" when I drive or when I sit or lie down....and it gets better every day. I don't even have to have another treatment until Friday.
Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else comes up with it sometime. I think it is pretty common.

I had a bout with vertigo two years ago. I had Gary take me to the ER because I couldn't stop throwing up. It was just horrible. Thank goodness the rx they gave me for nausea and vomiting helped within a few hours and the antivert kicked in after a couple of days. It happened when I was working out with a personal trainer, and needless to say, I haven't used a personal trainer since!

They gave me that also as I was nauseated at first when it was really bad, but it just makes me so sleepy I can't take it all the time. It is taking a little longer this time. My husband took me to my chiropractor the first few times, I would go in lurching all over and come out walking fine, but my doc says that the muscles want to pull it out again and I had to put moist heat on it. That really helped, sometimes I just stand in the shower.
I think if you are susceptable to it you have to be careful of things like sit ups etc. You can tell the personal trainer to tailor your workout. I miss mine. I was afraid to evern walk in the warm current pool, thought I might drown

I've had an inner ear disorder ( that's what they say when they don't know what it is) for many many years. I had to chuckle about the elevator and the wobbling across the hallway in church. I've had similar situations especially the elevator.
I take a decongestant to alleviate the pressure on the inner ear. And, yes, my neck muscles make a difference too.

A good Chiropractor is worth his weight in gold....to me. I know he has saved me from surgeries.
He fixed my carpal tunnel I was scheduled for surgery on, it never came back. My right hip goes out and if he does not adjust it it goes into terrible sciatica. Sometimes when I am biking if I don't get the seat far enough back [I have long legs] my right knee acts up and he adjusts my hip and it goes away.
Take care vertigo is no fun.....but it is pretty funny sometimes.
