new to this site
Hello all, My name is Debbie and I just found this site, I had my rny on sept. 8, 2009 and have lost 41 lbs to date. the weight loss is slower than I expected but I am very happy with it and feel much better already. I am 54 and was wondering if age is part of the reason for the slower weight loss. I picked up my four year old grand daughter the other day and asked how much she weighed. She weighs 44 lbs. I could barley lift her yet I was carrying around that weight every day. I can't even imagine how much better I will feel when I lose 100lbs.
I look forward to meeting you all on the board. Have a great day.

Hi Debbie,
Welcome to one of the best boards on OH. Congratulations on your road to healthy living and as for slower weight loss, I was one of those and age can be a contributing factor in that, as well as our adherance to the rules we are given by our surgeons/nutritionists. Sometimes we can shake it up by eating different foods, or adding a few minutes of a different exercise routine, we may need to trick our bodies and if no one has suggested it yet, take your measurements, because they are often the better way to check our progress. The scale is not my friend, however, it does offer me some accountability, but measurements do not lie and oftentimes I found the scale was stuck, when the measurements told me I was getting smaller. Also, take pictures each month, front/side and you will be able to see a remarkable difference, for me it really showed up at 5 months post-op. For more about my journey, please feel free to check out my profile.
Anyway, wishing you a healthy life.

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Hey Debbie,
My name is Debbie too! Welcome to OFF....a lot of awesome people here. Whenever I think of weight loss, I think of it in terms of WW. If you were in WW, do you think that you would have gotten rid of 44 pounds in two plus months? NO WAY! I think you're doing fantastic!
Congratulations on your success and, again, welcome to OFF.

Hi Debbie and welcome to OFF. Yes, age is a factor in slower weight loss. It took me three years to lose 180 pounds. I was 350 pounds to start, and got down to 167 at one point (have regained a little but not too much ... am fighting to keep it off).
Our metabolism slows as we age, so don't worry so much ... this tool works well, it's just slower as we get older. Use it right and it will work for you.

Welcome Debbie,
I'm 58 now, had my surgery at 57 in July. I'm down 63.5 pounds as of my last check. You're doing fantastic. I think the further out you get the slower you lose, but you still do lose. You didn't put it on overnight, so know you're doing fantastic. Like Debbie said, if you were on WW you wouldn't lose 41 pounds that quickly.
I know what you're saying about your granddaughter. I bought 2 40 pound bags of dog food, and had trouble carrying one into the house. I thought, geez, and I was carrying around one and a half bags of this as weight 24/7 just 4 months ago. Amazing. I just commented to my hubby today, as I was sitting on the floor wrapping yet another present that I'm so glad I've lost weight. He said he's really happy for me too.
Make it a great day!

hi, Debbie, and WELCOME! As the weeks go by, you will notice how much easier it is to pick up the grandkids, and roll around on the floor with them, and give piggy back rides and be able to breathe afterwards. Losing weight I did for me, but the side benefits are wonderful! Best of luck to you on your WL journey!
