Just Checking In

Hi Everyone,

It has been a long time since I have checked in with you all.  I have been lurking, reading and trying to keep up with you all, but life has been keeping me pretty busy.

Mom is still having issues with her health and they put her on aricept last week for Alzheimer's/dementia.   She is getting very difficult to handle and is at the point of no longer being able to stay home alone all the time.  My husband and I are making arrangements to move over to her house after the holidays. Right now we are in and out making sure she is eating and taking her meds.  I have fought with the Dr for over 1 yr about trying to get something done.  I just hope they have not waited until it is too late to help.

Anyway, I am doing fine with my lapband. I had one setback about a month ago when I had bronchitis and had to have 2 cc's removed because I could not keep water down.  (Movement of diaphragm irritated stomach where the band is and the opening was swollen shut). I worked hard at not gaining any weight and was successful (didn't lose any, but didn't gain any either!)  My Dr was pleased as he was pretty sure I would gain.  I have had a fill and have started to lose again.  I am down around 84 lbs overall.

I hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving and will have a wonderful Christmas if I don't get to chat before then.

Hugs,
Vera

Sorry to hear about your mother.  I understand what you're going through as my Mom had the same thing.  She lived with my husband and I for 6 years until we couldn't give her the care she needed.  Unfortunately for us we both had to work and just couldn't leave her at home by herself anymore.  It's a difficult road to travel, but you'll find the strength to handle whatever comes your way.  Hang in there and try to remember you've got to take care of yourself in order to take care of someone else.  That's so hard to do, but just try to take some time for yourself.

Vera,

It is good to see your smiling face. Dealing with aging parents and our own health issues can get frustrating. During those time, NOT gaining isn't so bad.

Happy holidays to you too.

Vera,

Glad to hear from you and sorry that you are dealing with the issues of your Mom's aging process.  My own cousin (who I grew up like sisters with) is also dealing with the very same thing with my Great Aunt Mary, who while her body is in excellent condition from years of being a gym rat, long before it was the rage, her mind has been failing for some time and now she is being very abusive towards her caretakers, so my cousin is beginning to look into a facility where her Mom can be cared for properly, which is never an easy thing to do. . .  I wish you the best and will keep her and you in my prayers.

Hugs, Laureen
