Have a great day and thanks for your kind comments earlier today about my dear Dillinger.

Hi Cassie and welcome to OFF (which is Over 50 Forum). You're not boring anyone, we love meeting new people and learning about their lives.
I had surgery more than five years ago and have lost 180 pounds, kept most of it off, although 10 pounds have been finding me lately. I have two cats, Nettie and Scooter, both rescues of sorts. Nettie came from my cat sitter who does rescues, although she wasn't really one of the rescues per se (she was offered to be for adoption) ... Nettie was 6 when I got her, but my cat sitter found her and her siblings in a plastic grocery bag in a garbage can one evening ... Nettie is the only one of the group still alive. She is a long-haired orange and white cat. Scooter was given to me by the apartment complex manager where I lived a few years ago ... he's 15 and Nettie is 12. They are my furbabies ... no other children.
You asked if I was a journalist. I'm a copy editor now, but I was a sports writer for many years before I moved over to the desk.
It's good meeting you!

It's so good to meet you too, Eileen! Wow, you've done so well with your surgery! I heard that some rebound weight is normal. It's nice to have a "normal" 10 lb struggle with weight, isn't it? I mean, compared to the war we had going on when we had so much to get off?
Gosh, poor Nettie! I'm so glad that she's found a good home with you and Scooter too. My gang has a story behind each of them too. We got Amber from a friend of a friend who was moving and couldn't take Amber with her. She's about 9 now--she was 9 mos. when we got her. She's a Maine Coone/Persian mix.
We got Mouse from a shelter for my daughter in 2002. He was about a year or two old and put up for adoption by a recent widower. He belonged to the wife who'd just died. Mouse took a shine to us and he seemed just right because I'd just lost my first husband. Mouse is a tuxie.
After I married my DH and we moved to NJ, we were at Petco one day and stopped to visit the cats for adoption. There was Kosmo, our Bengal mix. Kosmo was being given up "for no good reason"--that's what the card said. He was so sweet and loving we had to take him. Supposedly Kosmo was 8 then so I guess he's around 12? I dunno...
We saw a flyer at the store for Indigo, a black cat. Her owner died and the only local surviving family member was about to move across the country. Indy was also about 8 at the time so she's about Kosmo's age. She wanted to be an "only" cat so she lives upstairs in my daughter's bedroom and refuses to come downstairs. She's in good health and very sweet, just doesn't want to have anything to do with the rest of the gang.
We adopted Cubby and Sox together in 2007. Their owner died from cancer. The owner's mother couldn't take the cats in and the son was in a college dorm. They were heart broken and wanted the two adopted together if possible. Cubby's an orange tabby, very shy and anxious, and about 6 at the the time. Sox was 10, a very sweet and lovable tuxie. We'd had him less than a year when he began to have trouble swallowing so we took him to the vet. After lots of tests an medications the doctor told us he had a virulently malignant cancer in his jaw and tongue. There was nothing to do for him except to remove his part of his jaw and most of his tongue. We let the doctor send him to the rainbow bridge the day after Christmas and we were so heartbroken.
Then in July of this year, we adopted the baby, Munchkin, a Russian blue. She is less than 2 years old and jockeying for position among the gang. Her story was that first family was evicted and she was taken by animal control to a shelter. Another family adopted her and then they got evicted too! An animal rescue group saved her from being put to sleep and that's how we got her.
No more fur babies for now, though! LOL. We have a very full house!

Good Morning Cassie! Welcome to the OFF board. Never feel that you have to cut your writing short... I , for one, love to hear the details of people's lives. Is your youngest graduating from high school this year? You will be an empty nester soon! I have a 24 year old daughter- she is in her own place but at our house a LOT! I think she just wants to eat OUR food and watch OUR TV. You'll see... so happy to have you here!
Julia

Hi Julia, thanks for the welcome! Yes, our youngest is graduating high school this year but guess what! we're not empty nesters yet by a long shot, LOL! The economy here is so terrible and our cir****tances such that we all need each other so the 3 kids are going to be home for a while! My son is 22, older daughter 21. The only two who live outside of the house are my two stepdaughters. One is 33 and in Tennessee with her family and the other is 28 and lives with her boyfriend. My DH and I both became disabled and the mortgage would crush us without the extra income from my son and daughter--neither of whom makes enough to be able to get their own apartment. Tough economy to survive in for young people!
