OH NY Conference
Hey OFF friends,
Wanted to let you all know, we had a BALL at the conference! The girls I went with were wonderful, and I had a chance to meet Marcia and her daughter, Heather, who are beautiful people both inside and out! What FUN we had. I'll try and post some pictures later after work. I came away with not only a fun time, but a wealth of information. It was the BEST!
Have a great Monday!
Debbie

I went to the one in Texas last month. A lot of interesting little things. Chef Dave was there with shopping pointers and cooking tips.
There was a comedic exercise guy who has different ways to exercise that are not the normal ways. What I liked about him is how he stressed that any exercise is better than no exercise. So he suggests doing cardio type exercises during commercials while you watch TV. Commercial breaks are normally 5 minutes or so, so you get a good workout for that long, then rest for 12 minutes while you watch the show. Then another 5 minute workout. He said if you do that all night, it amounts to over 60 minutes of working out. It makes sense. It is not as good as a 60 consecutive minute workout, but better than no workout.
Mary Jo talked about sex.
And then there were the doctors talking about why you should have the surgery (mostly for the people awaiting surgery, but it was good info for us to pass on to others).

Tha's a great tip on how to get in a good workout without feeling like you did. Thanks for sharing
Hi Ruth,
Directly from the mouth of Dr. Garth Davis from Big Medicine....30 minutes of exercise daily, provided you get your heart rate within the acceptable range, is sufficient. He said you don't have to kill yourself at the gym doing tons of strenuous things.
I also learned from another guest speaker, that if you get the flu or a stomach virus and your fluids are depleted, if you end up going to the ER for something like dizziness, feeling off balance, headache, to have them check your thiamine level. Sometimes WLS patients will get stroke-like symptoms from thiamine depletion - this is RARE, but he pointed this out at the beginning of his lecture while discussing the importance of vitamins. Simple IV thiamine repletion often takes these nasty symptoms away if you are thiamine depleted.
I also learned information from the girls I traveled with, two of whom were veterans at RNY, about protein, caloric intake, carbs, shared recipes, etc. One gal even brought food she prepared to share - YUMMY - delicious! What a good cook she is.
Not to mention the FUN! Oh my gosh, tons and tons of fun. Lots of new friends too! If you ever get the chance, I hope you can go.
Have a great day!
