Hi Cindy and my OFF family:

It's good to see you again, Cindy. Don't be a stranger. There's a beautiful scene of golds and oranges and reds outside ... autumn in full bloom. I love autumn ... it's my favorite season. Unfortunately, the sky is cloudy and it's coolish ... 47. I have the electric fireplace on because I'm cold, socks on my feet and slippers, a long fleece nightshirt and a fleece robe and my fingerless gloves ... and it's not even winter yet!

I had a tough night too. I got home from work about 11 p.m. and watched some DVR'd shows ... about 1 p.m., I started having cramps in my legs and couldn't move (yes, I take my potassium and magnesium citrate!) ... I don't know why this happened, I haven't had leg cramps this bad for a long time. I was in a lot of pain. I was trying to clean up some cat vomit when it occurred. I rubbed on some IcyHot nighttime cream, and that seemed to help. Went to bed, read for awhile, got to sleep about 2 a.m., then woke up at 4 a.m. in a lot of pain again. I have been in a lot of pain lately ... I'm sure some of it is stress from work.

Speaking of work, I cleaned out my desk and put it in boxes. I don't know where to go with the boxes, so I left them at my desk and gave my boss a note about the boxes. And anyway, they're heavy and I'm not moving them and killing my back and knees. If they want me to move over to sports, they can move the boxes for me. If I have to move them, I'll end up filing a worker's comp claim ... that'll get me to disability that much faster. Anyway, I tried to play nice with the sports folks yesterday. I always bring in my dark chocolate nuggets with almonds to share with the news desk ... it's kind of a tradition. So I shared with the sports desk folks. I'm sure they've heard my rants about how I don't want to move over there, so I'm trying to make friends. I'm going to bake some cookies to bring in on Tuesday, too. Couldn't hurt to win some friends and try to make it a little easier for me, even though it's not where I want to be. I have to work 11 more years there, so I might as well try to make it as enjoyable as possible.
Today, I'm going to a copy desk get-together ... Sausagefest. Everyone is supposed to bring four sausages. It was funny ... one woman asked if she could bring Boca sausages and she was told they wouldn't even be fed to the dog ...LOL. I went to the local butcher shop, and the guy organizing this beamed at the thought ... now those were good sausages! I bought steak brats. Plus I made a German chocolate cake. The guys organized this because we are all working different shifts now and don't see each other. And now I'm shuffled off to sports (unwillingly, I might add!) so I have to leave my friends on the news desk (although we're still all one big desk, I'm told).

Well, I should get off the computer and finish off the newspaper so I can frost my cake (I actually made it Friday and put it in the fridge ... no time yesterday at all) and then get dressed ... Sausagefest starts at 1 p.m.

Have a good day.

Good Sunday to you all.

About 16 years ago we lived on a 120 acre farm for about two years.  Our whole street was amish.  Yesterday my husband and I drove through there and it was absolutely beautiful.  All the trees are so colorful now.   The amish had clothes hung on the line, do you believe it?  I wonder how they dry.  It was fun to see all the amish working in their gardens and yards.  Some were raking leaves, while others tended to the cold crops in their gardens.  Cabbage, beets and other things like carrots.

We stopped at one farm who had a little store selling cider and produce.  They had huge pumpkins and I got out of the car and had to knock on the door.   The young girl no more than 16 was barefooted and came outside while I picked out my pumpkin.  It cost me two dollars.  Most of the stores around here want 5.00.  I am disappointed I didn't buy more.   I just didn't think.  The young amish girl ran into a little building and had grabbed a few more logs for their wood burning store then said good bye.  They live such a simple life.

When I lived out there, I mixed in with the amish. I was allowed into their homes and went shopping at their little stores.   I miss that now.   They used to call me "the yankie girl"..)

Well... Just wanted to write down this and thought I would share.  If you like amish stories I have a ton from when I lived out there.

Good luck and prayers to all

Mary, have you ever read any Beverly Lewis books????She writes Amish stories and they are just wonderful.....most libraries carry them and they might be in a "religous" section.

I live in Amish country too, and admire the "plain" folk and their ability to get along with their "english" neighbors.

HI Pat,

Thanks, no I have never read any books by that author.  I will have to look for them.

I loved living near the amish.  It brought a  lot of thought into my life.

I don't live far from the amish and occasionaly see a buggy where I live now.  On  Saturdays they set up a few tables of pies and breads and quilts in our little circle of a town.   I enjoy them.

Thanks again for writing..

Mary, On my mom's side of the family I have Quaker ancestry dating back to PA and Delaware in the late 1600s. On my list of places to visit sooner than later is that area especially that called Hundred Circles near the PA/Delaware borders. There are meeting houses that my ancestors worshiped in that are still standing. And to visit those cemeteries. . . I know Margo understands and I'm sure you do too. There is something about walking the ground that those who went before me walked. Thanks for sharing your day and your memories.

oh karen i understand too well!
my quaker heritage moved toward michigan and their mtg house is gone but i have beent o it's location and the cemetery across the road....i do hope to someday get to the burying ground in NC tho!

karen-my own genie stuff lately has tendered Joseph Smith, founder of the Moromns and John Benjamin Wesley, founder of the Methodist church---so very many of us "came" to America due to religious beliefs ; it's staggering sometimes!!! ahhhh....sorry OFF.....genealogy is addictive and interesting...and fun!!!!!!!!!!

recently found another Patriot and he's buried right up near everyone else in my family in Michigan so that cemetery is on the list for next trip thru!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Oh MY- Cindy! I'm excited! 3/9 postings are West Coast today so far! Thanks for starting us... don't be a stranger... just a few lines of print count! We need to post- even late if necessary. I promise I'll read the late ones...it won't be for naught!
Unlike all of you snow babies, I'm enjoying the thought of winter on the way. I love the Fall, and truly enjoy the rain and some fog. It does get old after months of it, but it is exhilarating to feel the seasons change, and we don't get the harsh, hard to drive, lots of work kinds of weather. I think I'll stay here... taxes and all.
I don't have anything big planned today... playing it by ear again. Happy Sunday!
