What is New, Its Friday October 23, 2009
Wow, John, what a wonderful story. I don't know if I would have the patience to handle a foster child. I have never been a parent (other than a cat parent), and really don't deal well with children. I appauld those that do, though ... I am just not good with children. But good for you for taking that step. It takes a special person, and it seems you are one.
I wish I had that purpose in life right now. I feel my job stinks, I'm not happy in it (I used to love it), but I have no future there right now. I will not complain about it anymore, though, I will make the best of a bad situation and work my damnest to be the best I can be. I have 11 years before I can retire (but I'll probably have to work longer, unless I get disability from the bad back, bad knees and elbow.
I have my furbabies, my two cats, they are my children. Like I said, I was never very good with kids. When I lived in Montana, I was in Big Brothers Big Sisters and had a little brother for awhile ... I enjoyed that, but as I've gotten older, I've lost a lot of patience. I don't know if I could handle doing that again. I really do need to get some purpose in my life, like you have. I just have to find that light in my life again. It's there somewhere.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

John, welcome to OFF (Over Fifties Forum). We are so glad that you are giving us a try...and I am sure that you will be glad that you joined us.
You are truly an inspiration....and I believe that inspiration is for a lot of people. You have stepped out of your box and did something for others and for yourself. You are to be commended for that. I know that there is a 10 year old that is grateful and there are many others that are too...you felt the call and you stepped up and did what you knew you had to do.
I hope that you keep posting, I am sure I am not alone when I say that I could listen to you over again. You are such an honest and caring person. You fit in here so well..I have found that most of the people here are the same way.
Please feel free to join us each morning for our little chats. This is the time that we fill each other in on what is going to happen or what has happened in our lives. We just sit with our favorite cuppa and chat with each other.

Awesome John!! I had 19 foster kids, it was the best and worst experience ever. My specialty was special needs babies, I usually got them right from the hospital, had one girl with me for 15 years, I had considered doing it again, until my daughter went into the hspital for an emergency operation and I took her 2 week old baby, I decided Im too old for that any more..Best of luck with your surgery and your new life.Welcome

Good Morning Carla and OFF Friends!
Carla that was a nice thing to do, but you are definitely someone who is always giving to others and it does not surprise me at all that you would do something like you did!
Margo, I am certainly happy that nothing more serious happened and that all your 4-legged (or winged) friends are ok.
Well it's Friday! and for this week and until the world series is over, I am a Phillies fan, now I can honestly say that I love my METS, but they sadly disappointed us once again and though they were beset with injuries and such, they need to get it together and be the kind of team that the Phillies have become, it's not just one guy on that team that does it, it's the collective members of the team that make it a winning team. . . and even though my brother (his transgression is forgiven) is a Yankees fan, I just can't and won't root for them! lol
If Tony could see what is going on behind my desk right now, all these printouts of Phillie stuff, he'd probably choke (lol)!
So all three of my bosses are out, you know what they say about when the cats away. . . well I shall do exactly what I want to today. My work was done by 9:30, all I had left to do was filing and now it's personal things I will tend to ;)
Weekend is simple, Tony is coming down tonight and we will do whatever we want to and that is my simple life.
Wishing you all peace and strength to get through whatever life is presenting you with on this day!
Prayers and positive thoughts to those in need, Laureen
