Hi everyone! I would like to introduce myself.
I was 50 last yr when I had the surgery. My doctor told me due to the amount of weight I had to lose and to my age, I would probably stabilize at about 200lbs. Well I am 40 lbs below that now, still losing and I am not yet a yr out. I have lost a total of 151 lbs. I am off of my meds and I feel terrific. I must say that one of the best things for me has been exercise. I didn't want to do it but I did. Now I actually don't mind it at all. I love the way I feel after wards and how much energy it gives me. I also work out with weights and love feeling stronger too. I feel like I am 35 again. Life is good. I wish you the best.
Hi Pam - joining the others in saying Welcome! I had my surgery nearly 3 weeks ago. I'm 57 and want to have a good healthy future!
Glad you decided to post!

Welcome Pam.....Oh how I remember the waiting....and all the hoops I had to go through, but the day came and all the preparation paid off. We found out things about my health that needed to be found out, like when I lie down my oxygen levels drop for some unknown reason, but is okay when I sleep with oxygen at night.
It was a long surgery and a few days of discomfort, but within 3 weeks, I was OFF of my insulin that I had been on for 17 years and was taking over 200 units a day.....down to NONE is a miracle.
I am not saying there are not rough spots, but this Forum is the best to take along with you in your pocket through all of it. I personally could not have done it without them, my hardest times on this journey are when I stray fromt he Forum anx thinking I am "normal".
BTW...I was 65 when I had my surgery done and had no more problems than younger people. So go for it....your additional years, even if it is only 2 years, will be all that much better. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Best, Marti

Pam,
Welcome to the OFF board, and glad you came out of lurkdom. I(we) understand your concerns but the truth is,and I think the overwhelming response you have heard, is go for it! You will, more than likely, find yourself feeling younger and much more able to participate in life after you have had your surgery and lost some of the weight. If we could have wished ourselves there, none of us here would have met and I can tell you I've met some of the best people in my life by having taken this road!
Best wishes for your phone call that tells you when you will begin your new way of life!
