What's New, Wednesday????

Good Day, All

I know it's not Wednesday on the west coast, but here in good old Western NY it is.  Since I'm still up, thought I'd start the thread.

I had my 3-1/2 year post op labs done yesterday.  I have to admit I haven't been really good about the vitamins lately, so I'm interested in seeing if the labs reflect that.  I've been doing better the last couple of weeks. I'm finding it hard to remember them.   I know I'll always need extra vitamins and supplements, but the longer i feel "normal" the more I tend to forget about them.

The cookie monster has struck my house.  Now that I go into work in the afternoon, I find I'm cooking more often, and that's a good thing.  What's not so good is that I'm baking more, too.  Usually I bring the goodies into work to get rid of them, but some of my favorites seem to make it into my lunch as well.  Guess I'll have to start baking stuff I don't like.  Yeah, as if there are many baked goods I don't like....

But I find the cooking and baking very soothing.  My own personal anti-anxiety drug.  Maybe weird, but it's me.  I also like doing laundry and ironing.  I've been told I'm a little unusual that way.

I'm maintaining my weight, despite the cookie monster, and have even lost a few pounds these past few months, despite a couple of vacation trips.  But if I keep it up, reality will bite me in the butt.  And the butt will be plenty big enough to bite....

Time to hit the bed.  I'll sleep tonight.  It's been a long day.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday.

Next week I go for my 3 year labs, then 2 weeks later the 3 year check-up. I want to ask him about this problem of feeling cold then an overwhelming need to SLEEP. Not just a little nap but 2 - 3 hours of deep sleep.

2 of my grandson's got their learners permits yesterday. Dylan and Travis were both very excited. Time has flown too quickly.

Candy - ironing is soothing. As a young child, Mom let me iron dad's handerkchiefs and pillowcases. Once a week all my aunt's gathered and  did their ironing at our house. The house smelled so good.

Annette, I also 'got' to iron hanky's and pillowcases.  Does anyone do that anymore?  I don't iron anything.  If it doesn't say permanent press or no iron, I don't buy it.  Nothing relaxing about ironing to me...  I'd love it if someone would iron my pillow cases tho.

I agree, Jani!  That's when women didn't work outside the home.

I ironed the pillowcases and handkerchiefs too.  My mother would play the radio
WPAT was the station - big band music, etc.  Lovely memories.

Ahhh, the big band music....brings back so many loving memories of my dear parents.  They were the BEST!  Still miss them every day, but I know they're happy together in a peaceful, heavenly place.

My Mom was an RN and worked afternoons, three days a week and every other weekend.  She still had all the housework and stuff to do.  I didn't much like helping out, but that's what I got an allowance for...chores.

My mother went back to work when I was about 11 and my younger brother seven.  I dont remember much ironing after that, but still the cooking, cleaning, etc., just like I do.
Ironing was really hard when you think about it - I remember water in some kind of a jar
with little holes in it - maybe like a large salt shaker - they had to dampen everything via that bottle beforehand. I even remember some clothes being rolled and put in the refrigerator before ironing - maybe there was starch in the water and it had to "set".  I also remember the crocheted items when they were washed - must have been starched - and tissue paper being made into little balls and put into the rolled part of the item to give it shape - it had to dry that way so the
ruffles would stay in place.

It was a pleasant time for me singing with her and listening to music and helping a little.

This would have been mid to late 1950s.

It was quantity and quality time.  Always wonderful to have your mother to yourself.

Annette,

What sweet-smelling memories of ironing pillow cases and my Dad's handkerchiefs.  Gosh, I haven't thought of that scent in ages.  I don't iron now unless I have to - lol

good morning

candy its interesting how you feel about the cooking and baking stuff.  i cooked
all my life, even entered cooking contests with my girlfriend.  since the surgery,
i have zero interest in cooking.  my hubby does most of the cooking since i find
that i do not want to eat what he wants, even three years out.  i do cook if im having
the family, say for a holiday, but other than that, maybe two nights out of seven.

baking, i dont do at all anymore, and i figure its a good thing.  i find my solace
in reading, always have and more so as i age.

anyway,  i also had my three year labs last week, have not heard the results yet.
im trying to decide if i will go to see my surgeon. last time i saw him i got like
three seconds of his time, and now i hear that he does not take my insurance any
more.  not sure what i will do about that.

i have been having stomach pain, way low down, and my primary thinks i should
see a gastro doc and thats what i will do.  she did not think it sounded related to
the RNY and she is pretty up on things.  of course they could not fit me in till the
first week of November.

other than that, my mom is in the hospital as of yesterday so i went from work to
the hospital and they think she may have a kidney infection, she was in horrible
pain and kinda doped up with meds, so im hoping they will know more today and
i will go back there after work hoping to find her in a better condition today.

annette hope you get to the bottom of your situation, and george have a good time
at the fair.

hugs to all in need, be safe and well, jacki
