I am scheduled to have DS Surgery on May 18th.  I wanted to thank everyone on this board for their Messages.  They have been so very helpful.  I have been feeling - should I be going through with whis since I am 55 years old.  I am scared, anxious, excited, about going under the knife.

Reading your messages have reassured me that have Diabetes, Heart Disease, Acid Reflux, sore muscles is the reason to HAVE the surgery instead of thinking it is the reason not to have the surgery.

Thank you for all of the positive feedback.

Hi Nancy,

Congratulations on your surgery. Don't you worry, it's the best thing you can do for yourself
I was 55 when I had mine last September. I had a pace maker put in the February before, Asthma, High Blood pressure and on three different Heat meds.
I am off all Prescribe meds except for Aciphex and Coumadin and my inhaler for Asthma. Oh and I got RId of the c-pap machine. I have lost 114 pounds and I say now, why did I wait so long!!!!!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
You will be in my Prayers and thoughts.

Hugs & Love,

Karen

I am 52, and on Monday 4/20, had RNY.  I have been diabetic for 17 years, progressing from diet control to where I was taking three shots and several oral meds every day.  This, in addition to meds for blood pressure, cholest., etc.
Well, I left the hospital on Thursday with no medications for diabetes!!!!  The rest will be monitered and adjusted as appropriate.  I am so looking forward to seeing my neice and nephew grow up and living their lives.
I was unsure about the surgery at times, but even if my weight loss is minimal, the improved health status is worth it.

Good luck on your surgery, you will do great!

Congratulations on your surgery.  I can't believe you left the hospital off of your diabetic medicine.  That is definately something to look forward to.

I keep telling my self the same thing, that if I don't lose much weight it will be OK as long as my health status improves.

Thanks for the reply and Good luck with your recovery.

I know now I will start asking all of the questions I have.  I have my pre-op on the 4th of May.  I am starting to write down my questions for that.  Should I be buying vitamins and protein drinks now?

See there is another question,

Nancy, congratulations on the start of your new and wonderful life. You will be amazed at how well you feel and wonder why you waited so long. I know I did and then someone told me that I had it at the time in my life that I was suppose to.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.......we have a wealth of knowledge on this board. The only stupid question is the one not asked. Maybe that was suppose to said differently......heck I don't know but I hope that you get the idea.......ha ha

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Hi Nancy,
I understand the feeling about your age, but really, don't fret over it, you'll be fine and starting a healthy new life before you know it.  I'm 62 and pre-op!!!  I got 7 years on you and can't wait to have mine in June.  The folks on this board will help you with any questions and lots of encouragement.  It's almost your birthday....the one where you start a new life!!!  Congratulations!!!

Walking with you on this journey, Mary
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
