I'm back from the Doctor.
Well Hello Everyone.
I'm just back from the cardiologist. She said I have a blockage in the vessel going to the septum(which separates the heart in half). The good news is, I'm already taking a medication that she would prescribe for it so she's just increasing my dosage. No angio or cardiac cath or anything else is needed. I guess I was worried for nothing, but I'm sure all of your prayers didn't hurt.
Don't take me off of your prayer list tho. As I was walking from the parking lot into the cardiologists office, the lab called and said the mamogram of my left side was abnormal and I need to go back in and have the radiologist do another scan of the left side and read it. Boy, it's sure pouring on me now. I felt that I was going along fairly smoothly, albiet slow, and then the sky opens up. I don't feel any lumps, so maybe it's just a bad film. That's what I'm thinking. I'll let you know next Tuesday.
Thanks for letting me rattle on.

Jan, you said about the sky opening up....maybe it is in ways that you aren't seeing right now. It could be opening up in miracles coming down for you. If you hadn't had these tests for the upcoming surgery you might never have known about anything that is related to your health until later on. And things become harder with time.
Continue to stay positive and know that our prayers for you continue for you. Please keep us posted on how things are going and know that we are here for you.

You're absolutely right. I'd rather know that there is a 'potential' problem in the future. My friend had breast cancer and found it early. Still had to have chemo and lost her hair, but heck, I'm going to lose hair anyway after surgery.
I appreciat you keeping me in your prayers. I will keep you posted. This site really is wonderful.
Thanks Brenda.

i like brenda's way of thinking!
and you won't necessarily lose hair after surgery- my loss was minimal..just extras in the comb! it's not as radical as chemo
you are still in my prayers!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hang in there, Jan, all things happen for a reason. This reason is to get you healthy for surgery. Ask Julia, another of our WLS friends on the OFF board. She was preparing for surgery, had a mammogram, they found cancer, she had it removed and then had her surgery. Maybe they would have found it later, more advanced, who knows?
Did you hear the story about the basketball coach in South Dakota who was in the car accident? When he was in the hospital, they found cancer ... wouldn't have found that cancer if they hadn't been doing routine tests that they do because of the accident. Because they found the cancer at a less advanced stage, he is still alive. He lost his leg, but ya know, don't you wonder sometimes?
So I know this is tough right now, but mammogram pick up things that you can't feel. And that's the good thing. And sometimes what they pick up, isn't anything to worry about, either, especially in obese women (I've been told this by a couple radiologists).
I'll be thinking of you, though.

Hi Eileen,
I'm hangin. How long did Julia have to put off her WLS? I got a bit of a reprimand from the cardiologist. She wants me to get my sugar under better control as well as lighten up on the salt. I LOVE salt. I'm going to make the effort to get better before surgery. Katie, on the MI board got her date (from the same Dr. as I'm using) and her date isn't until 6-22. Hopefully nothing will hold me back and I'll be able to have the surgery before August.
I hadn't heard of the basketball coach. The accident was a blessing in disguise.
I've been telling myself that, because I'm obese, they're just seeing 'fat'. We'll see in a few days. The waiting is HELL tho.
I'm learning patience by default!

I don't remember how long it was for Julia ... you would have to ask her, she still posts here although infrequently. She's a sweetie! Both she and her daughter have had WLS; she lives in California.
If you want to learn about the basketball coach, search for Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota; it made the news last year in November, I think. It caught my attention because I used to cover Northern State when I was a sports writer in Aberdeen, but he wasn't the coach back then; the guy who is now the athletic director was the men's basketball coach then. Still, it's a great story.
It could be that on the mammogram they are seeing very dense breasts ... it has happened. Sometimes on obese women the breasts show changes that look like tumors but are calcifactions or something else (I had that kind of scare but they just wanted a second check ... and it was nothing). You will notice after you lose weight, however, the mammograms don't seem to hurt as much ... the same goes for your yearly gyne checkups ... the pelvic exams won't be as painful (or at least that's what I've noticed).
